Abe's used to be very good - when it was in Maine. It's changed location and ownership several times. Forget about it.

Adorama, Amazon, B&H, Cameta, Crutchfield, Hunt’s, and Robert’s - and probably others - are all good sellers of new gear. If you like to save on sales tax, consider an out-of-state seller.

If you purchase anything at Abes make sure that it has the manufacturer's USA warranty card and not Abe's warranty. Ask them to email you an exact copy from the exact box they are sending you.

Scam artists as far as I'm concerned! I ordered a Nikon 200-500 at $1196. A march madness sale. Great price right!? I get an email asking me to call to confirm the order. I call and the guy says " would you like the retail version?" What's that I ask! "That comes with the two caps, the tripod mount and the case" I got upset at being scammed like that and ask to speak to a supervisor and the guy gets really rude. "I don't have a supervisor,I'm the supervisor". I tell him to cancel the order. He gets very insulting and threatens me with a 25% restocking fee! I tell him I would rather pay the fee then get scammed like that and he says " why don't you just admit you can't afford it". I hung up on him at that point and called my credit card company to protest payment. Nothing had been charged and no restocking fee was ever assessed ( the conditions on the website says 2-3% for canceled orders ) I'll tell this story every chance I get! Internet scum is what I think of them. I'll only buy from adorama or b&h from know on!

I bought a lens for a Nikon film camera many years ago and was pleased then. I am sure that the personnel at Abe's have since been supplanted and may or may not be as helpful now.

Bought from Abe's a few years back. Had a problem with the camera and they exchanged it promptly. Again, this was a few years back.

"A few years back", that's the problem with Abe's. Abe's had an excellent reputation over many years. Then they went belly up and were bought by a New Jersey bait and switch outfit.

He asked our opinion, I gave him mine. Your welcome.

B&H and Adorama are the only places to buy on line. Absolutely the best customer service and trained sales people to answer questions. Their prices are always competitive.

Right after the call from Abe's about upgrading the filter for the Sigma lens I ordered, I read these comments. That's the way it goes, always a day late and a dollar short. Did receive notice from UPS that package was on the way though.

If that is "Abe's of Maine" then I recently bought a 65" LG 4K 3D TV from there. It arrived in fine condition and it worked exactly as predicted. If that's not enough of a miracle, I saved almost $400.00 off of Best Buy's price. I felt I got such a good deal I decided to give some back in the form of buying an extended warranty. That's my story with Abe's.

I am leaning towards Cameta for refurbished d810. Abe's listed a new camera for $200 less

Nope. Cameta provides equal service and easier free extended warranty on refurbs.

Plus they do not shut down on their religious holidays.

I buy from all three.

New D810 $200.00 less than refurbished??? That should tell you something. Buy the refurbished one from Cameta.
