Not exactly tongue in cheek, but as a retiree with more time than I used to have, I'm considering a return to the old days of cruise ships and trains. That will make a trip take a lot longer, but there are some advantages.
But from what I've seen, the disadvantages include pricier tickets. I would take the train from Albany to Salt Lake City for my annual Idaho-Jackson trek (actually series of parties with friends,) except that the sleeper cabins are as expensive as a 1st class plane ticket. But 3 days in a day coach seat is not a good idea for someone who is technically elderly. (And, yes, I've looked into it because of the TSA & airline carry-on restrictions in the past several years.)
I wonder if lenses-only could be carried onboard. The camera body goes in checked baggage. Lenses can be inspected by holding them up to the light - although that might be too advanced for TSA.
I am sure that you can take your equipment for now. Fed-X is the alternative as suggested above.
I do believe the ban is from flights coming to the US and unless they do the same thing here going to Europe I would think you could take you equipment on board, but the best solution would be to check with your carrier and the TSA to be sure, if you most check your equipment I would say some sort of Pelican case with locks would be the way to go.

Sorry, may I ask what you mean by "ultra thin" and why camera depth would be a determining factor? Are you planning to diguise it in a cufflink? Sony RX100 cameras are relatively thin, but the lenses are not. Go to the museum, buy the best post-card you can, take it to a top-notch film lab and see if they can enlarge it beyond 5'x4'. This would be copy righted material being copied. As a pro I condemn the use of copy righted material without the express permission of the author. To jest about it these days is even unthinkable because too many wedding photographers already have this problem and is why most of their prices are as high as they now are.

Humor is *never* "unthinkable." See Tadeuz Borowski's "This Way to the Gas, Ladies and Gentlemen."
Surprised that American friends on here think that a disaffected, semi-radical Swedish resident, unhappy at the idea of being deported from Sweden, might travel elsewhere so he could then fly to the US to attack it. Seems pretty unlikely. Not all people who drive trucks into shops are "terrorists" in the generally accepted (in the US) sense of the word. Certainly not all of them are intent on attacking the US. Vastly more attacks in the US are by Amercian citizens than by Muslims from Europe (i.e. none of those since 9/11). Let's keep some perspective.

If you HAVE to send camera in hold of plane coming back to the U.S., at least remove the memory card so and carry it on your person ou will definitely have the pictures taken.
No outbound restrictions as yet. Coming home, check w/airline and if restrictions exist, carry-on your lenses an ship the body (camera body hopefully) home.
You said, "Surprised that American friends on here think ..." I don't recall anyone here stating they "think" that the individual who perpetrated the terrorist attack in Sweden was planning on jumping on a plane to come attack America. The concern seems to be that some here think it a possibility that those who control what can be carried into the cabin of an international flight may think that terrorist may use alternate routes to get to the US. This could result in additional restrictions on what can be carried onto a commercial aircraft. The question was about alternatives for having access to photographic gear when traveling internationally, if such restrictions should occur. There were some good suggestions from forum members, such as ship ahead, rent gear at the destination, take a boat, pack the gear in a secure case and check it, etc.
Your response to what was a simple, and reasonable question appears to me to be a sly attempt to impute a nefarious motive to the original questioner and some of those who responded to the question.
It makes me question why you are on the forum. I, for one, plan to just ignore any further postings you make.
"Even here, on UHH, a fellow member mentioned that a terrorist need only travel to another city, to board a plane to the US. That departure city could be Rome, St. Petersburg, Barcelona, or Stockholm."
You may disagree with me, but that's seems to suggest that someone on here did make that suggestion.
I made no comment about the OP nor others who responded. I don't consider that "nefarious". But of course you're at liberty to ignore me, that's your privilege.
Hello!
If you have time to wait (they are finishing filling pre-orders), this is an AMAZING camera and is slightly bigger than a iPhone. I've been testing for almost a year now on fashion, lifestyle, and tech shoots and it's awesome! It would more than cover your size needs check it out!
https://light.coThere have also been some great comments about shipping the camera. I've done it for space reasons without problem!

There are some excellent Panasonic pocket cameras that shoot RAW. Some with a 1" sensor. Or you could choose one with a longer focal length, but the sensor will be smaller. They aren't ultra thin though. That's for iPhones or Smartphones.
If this rule becomes widespread, it will likely cause sales of " travel zoom " cameras to skyrocket

Is there any chance of renting the same camera at your destination?
There's a thought. A whole new industry. We-R-Cameras or some such catchy name renting 35mm gear. All you take are your SSDs and photo eye.
