BTW, at the time of purchase, I inquired about whether or not it was a gray market camera. They told me honestly they couldn't tell because they get trade-ins all the time. I further inquired if it was gray market could I return it. The reply was no problem, full refund. Fortunately, all the indicators pointed to a US import and all was good.

If you are buying a used camera from a used equipment dealer, the presumption would be that it is already out of the OEM guarantee so what difference does grey market (or not) make? My understanding is that Canon will not do guarantee, ie. no cost, repairs on grey market equipment, not that they will do no repairs.

I bought a refurbished Nikon D90 from B&H last year, to replace my old faithful that broke it's shutter. It looked like new, had less than 200 shutter actuations. Worked fine for 2 months, then with increasing frequency would display an error and not fire. It was past their 30 day warranty, but I phoned them and they told me to box it up and send it back, they would replace it. I had the replacement in a week and it's been working fine. I would not hesitate to buy another refurb from them. I love their customer service.

Very reputable company. As are Adorama and Cameta also. All three are good companies to deal with, and you will find pricing is within pennies of each other. Check out individual deals on certain models.

I've always been very pleased with refurbished from B&H and Adorama.
I think of refurbished from a reputable seller as better than new.

Some say the world is flat and the moon is made of cheese.
Some say is always a reliable source.

Electronic equipment, in general, has two failure modes: early due to (usually) manufacturing defects, and late which is usually years down the pike. I buy refurbished whenever I can from reliable sources (and B&H certainly is one of those). This has two benefits: it saves a bit of money; and avoids most of the early failures electronics are prone to have.

I wouldn't hesitate to purchase used or refurbished from B&H, Adorama, or KEH. Generally, each gives you a chance to examine the camera in your hands and if it doesn't meet your expectations (within a reasonable time, usually a couple of days) you can return it. Of course, you are responsible for return shipping. Nikon USA also sells refurbished equipment.

I just purchased a refurbished Nikon zoom lens from B&H. It came with a 90 day warranty.

I have bought new and refurbished items from B and H. I find them highly reliable. Their phone help is excellent regarding which product to choose, comparisons etc. They offer extended warranty for purchases if needed. I have also bought these and used them successfully. I would not hesitate to buy from them. My most recent purchase was a refurbished underwater camera...worked great!

I would agree and assume that the used equipment is probably out of OEM warranty. However with Nikon if you buy Grey market, Nikon service centers will not even touch the product or if it needs a part , will not send/sell a part to an unauthorized repair center. Nikon will not tell me, you, Adorama, B&H, or KEH (WITH serial numbers in hand) if a product is grey or not. They have all tried for me. They tell you to send it in and we will let you know.. After a month of looking and calling Nikon and all the brick and mortar stores I just bought Nikon 300mm f2.8 G VR II with Nikon warranty card and matching serial #'s & a sticker on the lens that says Nikon USA.. If this lens ever needs service Hopefully Nikon will work on it and doesn't ask for the original owners first child's name.
