I recently decided to end my subscription, the Mag. has been getting thiner and thiner, and now it will vanish. A sign of the times.

I've been getting the various photo mags out of Britain for years and they are superior in every way to Popphoto. No wonder it's going belly-up.

What are good Brit photo mags and how can we in US subscribe?

Brick & mortar stores are having difficulties. Those with online presence or online only are doing much better.

Outdoor photographer seems to be getting a little thin also... B&H does not even advertise in the back anymore.

FYI since you shoot Canon you might check this out
http://www.eos-magazine.com/

I've subscribed for quite a while and save every issue. Something I don't do with any other magazine. It's not cheap... I think it cost $42 US but you have access to both digital and print versions.

Happy Shooting

They will be missed. They seemed progressively lost since Herb Keppler past. Finding balance in these new times of imaging is a tough assignment for any publication. Of late Popular Photography had no idea who they where talking to. Sad for those losing jobs. For us old farts it is another funeral and opportunity to say thanks for the inspiration and being there.

I stopped renewing my photography magazines a long time ago. By the time the print version came out, the news of new equipment and photo tips was old. If they were online, people would expect them to be free, or free of ads. Can't win in any case. Too bad. All of these magazines were fascinating at one time.

Sorry to say, but the march issue of Popular Photography magazine was the last issue, they are closing their "doors".

I wonder if I'll get a refund on my latest sub?

Unfortunately, magazines Like Popular Photography belong to a era many of us may or may not fondly remember. We dropped our film off at the one hour kiosk or drug store and retrieved a package of negatives and prints that we faithfully put into albums (hard drives of the past). The photographs had a nice tactile look and feel.
Now most of us store the memories on an electronic hard drive where they are occasionally viewed or shared with another electronic device.
Sadly this is where magazines are going. I will miss them. I don't read electronic magazines. I like the feel and look of magazines as I like a printed photograph vs. viewing one on someone's phone.

I'm 75 and have been told by people I care about that I resist change ... well, I think we all do. I think it has a lot to do with nostalgia. Some of our happiest moments were spent thumbing through a new Photography magazine, dreaming of that particular camera, new lens ... there they all were, scattered through the pages, lined up by store in the back of the magazine.
Modernity came into terrible focus two days ago. I own a lot of really late model (and old film) Nikon stuff. I love it - cameras by themselves are magnificent gadgets. My wife and I were sitting in our living room in Ohio, she was knitting an Afghan and I was fooling around with my iPad. The light falling on her was perfect, the vaulted ceiling windows casting alternate streams of shadow and sunlight ... so I took a picture. Oh my heavens. It was the best picture I've ever taken of her. With this dumb iPad. Have we really gotten so "modern" that no one needs a good camera/photography magazine anymore? Nat Geo laid off (purportedly) 50 photographers do to the ease of using the iPhone. Where is this going?

Yes, Peterson's Photographic always had many do it yourself articles on making your own equipment. Things like darkroom sinks, copy stands lighting, etc.

Very sad. My dad was an avid amateur photographer (who I got the bug from) and had a collection of Popular Photography issues from the 50's and early to mid 60's. I loved to read them. Some of the old ads were a lot of fun.
