Most of us though try to write for others to read. The point is to communicate and discuss by exchanging information. It actually is very productive, and oddly enough in the long run, over a period of years provides more and better ego development than trying to quickly plug cracks with snark.

When I got a D4 it had one CF and one XQD slot. I filled the XQD slot but I rarely used it because all my other cameras had CF cards and my workflow was set up for them. I used the XQD card for video (but I don't do much video). It was a real pain having two different cards but I managed.

When I got a D5 I had to choose: CF or XQD. I chose XQD because they have a reputation for being faster, and very few cameras used them so since I already had a camera that used one I thought I'd better use XQD because I didn't want it to disappear and make my second (backup) slot on the D4 an orphan. Once I started using the XQD cards I switched the D4 XQD slot to the primary slot and enjoyed the fast downloads. On my computer the XQD download is 3-4 times faster than the CF.

I don't think they're being phased out, but I'm not the one who makes those decisions. At the moment there aren't too many cameras that use them.

New? I've been using them for five years. That isn't old, but it's not new either. There are at least three levels of revision too.

Perhaps the moral of the story is not to believe most of what you read on UHH. All of us have opinions but some people state them as fact.
The XQD card is very, very fast. I use a high end XQD card to photograph birds in flight and when combined with the excellent and fast buffer on my Nikon D500 it captures shots incredibly quickly, thus allowing me more "keepers." If you are not shooting moving subjects I'm not sure the cost involved would be worth it. But, of course, that is your choice.

I've just started using XQD cards a couple of months ago and impressed by the speed when compared to the CF cards I've been using. I was surprised to find that SanDisk hasn't embraced the format, especially since I've read that they were one of the companies that collaborated in the design of the XQD format. The combination of substantially higher read/write speed and not using delicate pins (like the CF card) gives me hope that the format will continue until something even better becomes available.

That's correct. I've read a couple of articles lately about the XQD and the new CFast cards. SanDisk decided not to produce the XQD cards. It seems that Nikon is going with XQD and Canon is going with CFast. I have a Nikon D500. I hope the XQD format continues.

XQD cards are the fastest available both to shoot with / write to and to download. They are not being phased out; Sony is now incorprating them in their high end video devices.

When I signed up for a D500 prerelease, I didn't order any XQD's at the same time. When Adorama notified me the D500 was being shipped, the only XQD's I could find that were in stock were 96GB cards. I bought one for $110. Then it occurred to me that I needed an XQD card reader. That was another $50 at the time. In addition to a $2000 camera, another $150 in stuff to make it work properly. Later I bought a 64GB card and another card reader. The readers have declined in price. The cards have not.

Last Saturday I decided to use the SD card in the camera because I had forgotten to bring the XQD reader with me and didn't want to go to the trouble of copying from the XQD to the SD. I figured since I was on the slow burst that I have set at 6fps, it might work for me. Nope, buffered on me at about 15 or so images. Back to the XQD.

alandg46, thanks for the input. I was told about the same when I bought my camera; to get the most out of it, I should go with the XQD version. Then I read here that XQD cards were on their way out. Looks like that was misinformation. BTW, I live in Dallas.

I think that was just an old rumor. For several years the Nikon D4 was the only camera that used the XQD card. Many people were concerned (particularly when Sandisk decided not to make them). It's good to see that they are finally getting more use.
