The state of Dentistry is simple ............the dental practices are now charging obscene amount of money.
I and many of my social circle have had to lay out thousands of dollars to get their teeth fixed.
Many of them had to go into debt just for a root canal.

I think there should be in the mass media a campaign to educate the public ( from a very early age) on how sugar is killing our teeth.

No wonder we see many people with no teeth by age 30.

Where are the low income dental clinics?

Some drug users are having severe issues with their teeth. Epidemic proportions as we all know.

Man in London

"All the world's a stage" is the phrase that begins a monologue from William Shakespeare's As You Like It, spoken by the melancholy Jaques in Act II Scene VII. The speech compares the world to a stage and life to a play, and catalogues the seven stages of a man's life, sometimes referred to as the seven ages of man:[2] infant, schoolboy, lover, soldier, justice, Pantalone and old age, facing imminent death. It is one of Shakespeare's most frequently quoted passages.

All the world’s a stage,
And all the men and women merely players;
They have their exits and their entrances,
And one man in his time plays many parts,
His acts being seven ages. At first, the infant,
Mewling and puking in the nurse’s arms.
Then the whining schoolboy, with his satchel
And shining morning face, creeping like snail
Unwillingly to school. And then the lover,
Sighing like furnace, with a woeful ballad
Made to his mistress’ eyebrow. Then a soldier,
Full of strange oaths and bearded like the pard,
Jealous in honor, sudden and quick in quarrel,
Seeking the bubble reputation
Even in the cannon’s mouth. And then the justice,
In fair round belly with good capon lined,
With eyes severe and beard of formal cut,
Full of wise saws and modern instances;
And so he plays his part. The sixth age shifts
Into the lean and slippered pantaloon,
With spectacles on nose and pouch on side;
His youthful hose, well saved, a world too wide
For his shrunk shank, and his big manly voice,
Turning again toward childish treble, pipes
And whistles in his sound. Last scene of all,
That ends this strange eventful history,
Is second childishness and mere oblivion,
Sans teeth, sans eyes, sans taste, sans everything.

I could use some dental work myself but the price scares the hell out of me. Thousands of dollars is not possible for me when it comes to this work. I've decided to do without.

Only problem with that is if there is even the slightest infection(there need not be any symptoms) can lead to serious heart problems. Get it done.

Jerry, its not just dentists, buy the whole medical field. They are so pompus and conceded, they get off on abusing people in pain. Remember the olden days when you could call your Doctor and go right in and they would fit you in.

Conceded? What did they concede? Oh, you must of meant conceited.

No, I don't mean an actual U. S. state, but the condition of the medical business. My son lost a large filling in a molar a few days ago, and it's very painful. He was able to get to the dentist for a "quick look." As they always seem to say, "Root canal, $1,900." That was out of the question, so he wants to have it pulled. Their "tooth puller" is there only on Wednesdays, so he has to wait from Tuesday this week till next Wednesday afternoon to have it pulled. This is a very large practice with about a dozen rooms set up for dentistry. I guess they need more dentists to fill those rooms. I can never make an appointment for a cleaning and checkup because they're always booked up months in advance. It's time to switch dentists.

Calling around, no other dentist can do anything but look at the tooth. You'd think they would be able to fit a painful emergency into their schedule. It's not like they'd be working for free or doing him a favor. They'd be getting a couple hundred dollars for a few minutes work.

Hopefully, that's my last rant for the day.

There is a reason why dentists and outlaws wear masks.

I think it is a racket not a business or medical care.

It is a racket and much more involved than you can ever imagine. It's designed to take total control of you and your life. It's called the medical mafia and was recognized decades ago. Have you ever read the obozocare bill?

Thank you English teacher for the help and correction. We can tend to get lazy with our words when we get old.

Look and see if there is a dental school or college in the area. My parents are retired and on a fixed income so they have all of their dental work done at the U - M dental school. It's worth a shot.

U-M? Michigan, Montana, Missouri, Mississippi, Myanmar, Moscow... MoTown ?

Michigan, the only school that actually uses U of M as a title.

I didn't read pages 2 and 3, but I'm going to go ahead and assume that no one posted this kind of reply. Where I live (Massachusetts) the larger dental clinics have the option of going in when they first open in the morning, and waiting for a possible cancellation. It is a first-come, first-serve basis, so you wouldn't want to go in at a later time, in case other people have the same idea. However, it seems that not many people know about this option. Dentistry is probably the number one medical field where people make cancellations or are no-shows all the time. Some people are seriously stressed by the discomfort and pain associated with needles and the probing in the gumline with sharp instruments. With clinics that have several dentists, the probability of a cancellation happening of one kind or another is pretty much guaranteed. I've used this option myself and got in before noon for a new filling where a large, scary-sized one had fallen out. If an extraction is warranted, this may depend on whether or not x-rays have already been taken and/or are needed. It is clearly a gamble, as there is always the possibility that that day will have no cancellations or no-shows, but under the circumstances that everyone here has indicated, it is certainly worth the risk if there are no other alternatives. Be sure to bring plenty of reading material, and maybe a lunch and a toothbrush.

Thanks. I'll keep that in mind. Unfortunately, their tooth-puller is there only on Wednesdays, so he's booked, although a cancellation is a possibility.
