Made an appointment two days in advance with an oral surgeon to pull 4 wisdom teeth. He did the job in 15 minutes ( I was out cold) including stitching me up with dissolving thread, so, no follow up appt. There was NO pain what-so-ever. He also extracted $2,000.00 from me for his work, but did a great job. Lots of oral surgeons in Long Island NY.

I had the same experience, The Surgeon was in westbury. 4 teeth 1 hour 2 grand. Not bad income 2 grand per hour. I made 1/2 that per month in my first job out of college.

I used to live a few miles south of Westbury.

Do not overlook going abroad for dental work. Several years back I flew to Manila, had 4 bridges made, and the cost flight(East coast) + lodging+ dental was a little under $1900. I understand that dentist in Santo Domingo are mostly USA trained and reasonable. Can't help you with RP dentist as mine died and I have not dug :-) up another one and the long flight would be too much for me now anyhow.

Interesting ow that works out - travel and get work done for less than the cost of local work. How did you select Santo Domingo and the dentist?

A cousin of mine married a Santo Dominican and he gave me a lead. I didn't go there as I opted for Manila where I had better firsthand contacts. Airfare JFK to Manila was about $800 RT then. I was living in Saugerties then and the dental work I needed would have cost me better than $3,000 there.

Amazing! Of course, the trick is to find a good dentist in the foreign country. How much did the dental work cost in Manila?

Can't remember exactly but less than $1000. It was 25+ years ago so it has grown a little dim in my gray cells. Wouldn't do it again as the ride getting there would be too much for my old frame.

Just a sidebar on this.
I lived on Guam 1967-75 and it was a routine occurence for people needing dental work to fly over to Manila on Friday and back Sunday so as not to miss a day of work. Airfare then was $170 RT, hotel maybe $30/day, eats $10/day so very affordable.
In '75 I moved to Manila and back Saugerties '86. I was single most of that time and I could go out far a evenings playing around and imbibing in adult drinks with $5 worth of pesos in my pocket and get home with some change left.
I was much younger and foolish then. ;-)
