Thanks for taking time to give a helpful critique Tom. I was surprised to discover there's a bit of a learning curve with the new lens - for me anyway. I think the image is soft because I used the f/2.8 setting in ap priority. I could easily have gone to f/8 to get better dof and still had plenty of shutter speed. My other excuse...the lens is a bit heavy and might have benefitted from a tripod. Back to the "drawing board."
