Error when Fine Tuning Nikon d500

I am trying to fine tune my Nikkor 105mm macro lens on my D500.
i went through all the steps:
live view
af-s s
center focal point
focus at level plane on high contrast subject
press movie button and focus point selection button (not sure of actual name, but it's the one in center of the M / M-A button on bottom left front of camera)

i continue to get the error message: Auto AF fine-tune is not available at current focus settings

i've searched the web and some suggested fixes were to move the focal point off center and retry. or to go to manual focus and retry.
nothing has helped.

any ideas?

I thought that the D500 was able to auto fine tune any lens

There's a good explanation at this thread. They were doing auto AF fine tuning on a D5 but it's the same with the D500. I have a D500 but I haven't tried it yet. I've just been using my DataColor SpyderLensCal for AF fine tuning.

This early in the morning, I haven't looked at my manual but - why are you pressing the Movie (Live View?) button. Just use the Live View (NON-movie)

I got the same message and asked Nikon They could not reproduce the problem on their camera and lens, Sent the camera and lens back to Nikon Repair for recalibration. They found everything up to snuff. Still get the same error message Do Not Kow Why

any ideas?

Holy crap, you have to go through all that just to micro adjust focus on a lens?
No wonder you're having trouble!!!! LoL

The Nikon D5 and D500 are the first two cameras on the market to have an auto AF fine tuning feature. No test target is needed. You can carry out the auto AF fine tuning in the field. Any object will do - a tree, a bird.
