What Walmart really needs to do, AND I have made this point both on here AND to Walmart is make sure that people understand that they are not purchasing from Walmart before they pull the trigger and make the purchase. We have all (on here) stated that 42nd street is bad and 47th street is questionable. Having said that, Walmart does need to make sure that their customers (even those that mistakenly do so) purchase from a non-Walmart vender through a Walmart site. I hope that your battle with Walmart does something to get them to straighten out this issue.
If you didn't know and by now you probably do, you can reach Walmart Corporate at 1800 Walmart (or 1(800) 925-6278. I have them on speed dial when I go to a local Walmart and either get lousy service (Walmart requires that the manager open more checkout lanes if there are more than 3 people in a line and additional "closed" registers are available. Opening self checkouts counts. My local is a 24 hour grocery and had all of the self checkouts closed and 2 registers open. There were 15 people in each line (many with carts of groceries) and the Night manager (yes I know who he is) walked up and looked then went out to smoke a cigarette. I casually mentioned it to him and he said, yeah and they'll still be there when I get back." I called corporate and told them. They called the store. The night manager told them that he didn't have any register trained people. ( Explained to the manager that ALL night stockers and personnel are REQUIRED by corporate to be register trained.. I also pointed out that HE (the Manager) is required to check if there is no one else available. He No longer works in that store and the Store Manager was also demoted to another store.

My point is that Corporate does follow up.

Dave,
Thanks. I called an 800# and complained. Someone here posted that they were looking at a 7100 on the Walmart site and it said "International Version". I don't know how recent that was. I know that I might seem naive, and I probably was on the misrepresentation/grey market thing. However, let me explain that I bought my first FE almost 30 years ago, in a pawn shop. It's a workhorse and Not grey market. Grey market was extremely rare b/c you had to actually know someone who was going to China that could buy the goods and hand carry them back. Stores were either prohibited (it might have been illegal) or protected their reputation by not selling these goods. Now, greed and the love of money rules and anything goes. As far as the camera, I'm not too worried... Nikon is pretty good, I've only had one bad apple. Crossed fingers prevail... if it doesn't work out... Refurbished 7100 on future horizon. :-)

On a seperate note, Clearwater is a beautiful place, as I remember it. I spent my first 48 in the southeast (Miami). I'm spending the other 1/2 in the northwest. (Idaho). Best wishes to you!

When it comes to any kind of technical details, Walmart employees are usually dumb as bricks.

Yep they are just like Best Buy employees, K-Mart employees, Target Employees and any other retail people. Occasionally, you will find someone in Electronics that is actually a computer geek or someone in Photo that actually knows something about photography. But its the same in most other stores. Now, if you go to a REAL Camera shop, (whether its Cameta, B&H, Adorama) or your (vanishing) local Camera/Video Only shop, more than likely you will get someone or have access to someone that knows which end of a camera to point at the subject. Actually most of these are pretty experienced but many spend so many hours in the store that they have little experience with the newer cameras.
Remember that in departments other than Electronics, Photo, Automotive and lawn and garden, employees in Walmart and I'm pretty sure other stores get transferred around regularly. In Walmart, Electronics, Sporting Goods, Lawn and Garden, and Electronics are the highest paid hourly employees in the store and they rarely get transferred from there to any other department. However, everyone in the store is trying to get transferred to one of those departments. So, many of the employees may be newbies and it isn't difficult to imagine one of us getting frustrated with their lack of knowledge. Also, Walmart typically looks to those department managers when they start looking for people to promote to management.

Didn't realize you had one. I'm sure you can use all the help you can get.

Can't imagine you are lost on the point I was making, you as well as everyone that has read my post know what the point was. A fictitious name, your location is “in hiding” (can understand why) must give you the courage to say the things you do knowing that the anonymity of sitting behind computer screen, typing whatever you want and knowing that there is no consequences. Knowing that you will not run into any of the people you malign, knowing that you don’t personally know any of these people hence you will never have to address them face to face must give you a feeling of power. I actually feel sorry for you, you obviously have some self-esteem issues and vent that frustration on this forum by saying the things that you say.

If you are fortunate to find one that knows what is going on... they're just there temporarily, prepared to move on to a different career... ;-)
