I was reading on UH someone wanted to buy a Nikon D5300 two lenses kit for $700.00 dollars.I thought that sounds a little high. So I did a little looking. I found Wal-Mart selling a D5300 with a Nikon 18-55 a Tamron 70-300. DI LD Macro lens, 43×XIT wide angles lens 2.2 x XIT telephoto lens gadget bag, flash, 32gb card, memory card reader, tripod, RC control, filters, cleaning kit, strap, battery + charger, one year after market warranty, lens hoods, $699.00 dollars. Wal-Mart says international model no warranty but at the bottom of the page it says one year seller warranty. But not who ? I wonder if Wal-Mart would stand behind it.

Perhaps you should ask Wal-Mart. Nah. That makes too much sense. Ask UHH instead.

You get a bigger variety of opinions from UHH. ;-)

Alas, all too often if you ask the sales clerk in a store like Walmart they either won't have a clue and tell you that or they tell you something that you later find out to be untrue. As Judge Judy likes to caution, "If it isn't in writing it doesn't exist". So better advice is to read the packaging.

I did a little checking after seeing the other thread. It interested me because I have a refurb D5300 I bought a couple of years ago. (Still works fine). The reason for the seemingly high price is the 70-300 lens included in the other package. You can get the camera refurb for $479 and the 18-55 for about $100. But the 70-300 AF-P is about $400 (VR Version). So it is a good package...if it is the VR version.

Nikon is now offering non-VR versions of their newest AF-P lenses for $50 less. You definitely don't want the non-VR version of the 70-300. I wouldn't want it either on even the 18-55.

I didn't check the price on the Tamron included with the Walmart package.

Going to the Walmart site and reading the "Read More" details - I found that it appears to come from 47th Street Photo - https://www.walmart.com/ip/Nikon/50880258#about

Checking the fine print is full of surprises

47th St Photo (or is it 42nd?) are notoriously bad to do business with. Very surprised Walmart would.

Note this is a different package than mentioned above. It does not include the 70-300 lens and is cheaper.

Since the link does not mention Nikon warranty I suspect that this is a gray market camera. That means Nikon will not repair it ever...even if you are willing to pay them to do so.

Not me. It isn't about ethics. It's about the money.

It probably means that the seller is giving you a one year warranty, hoping it will operate without failure for one year. And if it does fail before that, you probably won't find him. Gray Market written all over it. That original $700 deal is a deal, and you get a Nikon USA warranty for one year. Without any future worries.

The plot thickens!

I see that there are two stores: 42nd Street Photo and 47th Street Photo!

Interestingly the one I thought badly of (42nd St) is certified by the BBB and gets a very good A rating. 42nd street isn't certified but still gets a pretty good A- rating.

I'd save any dilemma and not buy from either one. Plus I'm ticked at Walmart because their Ad doesn't come clean on it being a gray market item. I doubt they'd be much help if a warranty or repair matter came up.

BTW the multiplier lenses on both packages are worthless.

To Jim Bob you are so right. The question wasn't for myself. It was a question for someone else. I would like to make a strong suggestion that you should learn HOW to read

"... I wonder if Wal-Mart would stand behind it." your words and if not, perhaps you and I need to learn how to write.

Plus, I have a friend who is related to someone on his mother's side, that used to work for Wal-Mart in the Automotive Department. He may know...
