I like the color much better because the white at 12 &1 O clock on the wheel just draws my eye there it is not so promanent in the color photo. However I will clone that out in both pictures

Welcome to our forum!

I prefer the color shot. I often wonder if we would even have B&W photography if the early inventors were able to do color right away. Your B&W shot is very nice, but I generally prefer color.

I agree with Jerry, 100%.

I took this shot earlier this year with my Nikon D600 while on vacation in Panama. I like it but can't decide which is more impactful - color or B&W. Unfortunately, I shot in JPEG instead of RAW (somewhat newbie to RAW). I've included the original files so the meta data is available. The photos have minimal post-processing (also a newbie in LR).

I just joined the forum recently and would appreciate any and all opinions (and even some sarcasm I see on the forum!) on:
B&W vs color
Composition
Bokeh
even....is it a good photo?
etc.

Thanks!

Interesting and well shot... color to be sure.

When I first looked at your image, my eyes went right to the pink flowers in the background. The B & W version helps to focus on the main subject and not the background color / flowers.
Good shot, by the way.

I like the photo very much. Color by far for me on this one.

The color images is my choice. It separates the background from the subject where the monochrome doesn't have adequate tone separation IMHO.

Definitely B&W, which serves to enhance the age factor of the old wheel. The color which brings forth the flowers diminishes the age of the wheel.

I think they BOTH work well, but the color has some nice contrasting tones.
By way of critique you have to ask yourself "is the wheel stand-alone a strong enough subject?"
If you include some interesting background and offset the wheel a bit, it might make for a more interesting shot.
And be careful with your depth of field, oftentimes the object nearest the viewer should be in focus, although the HUB is more important here.
You asked for 2 cents.

My same thoughts. The negative space, as in the 4 corners, could have been less symmetrical. Perhaps lowering the camera would have done it.

I to like the B & W because it shows considerable tonal gradations whereas the color photo lacks interest for me. Simple objects are good candidates for
B & W.

Both; mother nature did an astounding job with the color which you captured quite nicely.
The B&W has a certain charm and can be used to illustrate a point without distracting from the point.
All opinions have merit; you choose the value.

My vote is for the color version as there is so much more detail that is delineated by the various colors on the wheel.

The black and white has more impact for me.

The colour one does it for me. I love the warmth of the photo. I think the colours in the photo, especially the flowers give it a welcoming feel, if that makes sense.
