In the Atlanta, GA area, Showcase Photo & Video is a pretty good source. They are located at 2323 Cheshire Bridge Road in Atlanta. I've bought several lenses and a camera body from them and when I had an issue with the camera body during the 30 day period following the purchase, they exchanged it for a new body - argument. A pleasure to deal with them in general. They also run some special events at various times and partner with KEH on some events as well.

Robi's in Lakewood/Tacoma Wa. They are usually a little higher on some things, but I have found them to be friendly and helpful.

Rowe Photo and Audio in Rochester NY. They also process film.

We also have Finger Lakes Photography Center in Canandaugua that only charges a 10% commission on consignment which means the prices don't have to be too high to cover a high commission. They are on Facebook.

Pro Photo Supply and Camera Solutions in Portland Oregon. Pro Photo Supply has prices competitive with the New York stores as well as a sizeable used section, while Camera Solutions is also fairly well stocked and does full service camera repairs and cleaning.

I'm initiating this thread with the hopes of accumulating a list of outstanding camera stores throughout the country. We are all aware of the great camera stores in New York, but there are still those hangers-on throughout the country that will let you test lenses right out of the box as well as rent lenses. In the Dallas area it's Arlington Camera in Arlington, TX....almost under the shadows of Jerry Jones Stadium and the Ranger Ballfield as well. I'll post the link to their website. If you have a camera store you'd like to post, please do so. Perhaps when they've all been posted a new thread could be compiled with a state by state listing.

Powell Camera Shop
160 West Badillo St, Covina CA 91723

Small; offer classes; web site: http://www.powellcamera.com/Powells/PCS_Home.html

I've only been there a few times. I is conveniently near the Adult Tri-Community School of Photography. Though for most major purchases and rentals those students go to Sammy's in Pasadena.

Unfortunately the stores where I bought a lot of my supplies and gear in the past are now out of business. These include Frank's Highland Park Camera (Los Angeles, CA), Lee Mac Camera (Pasadena, CA), and Claremont Camera (Claremont, CA). Temple City Camera is long gone as well.

For me these days it's B&H, Ebay, Amazon, and Freestyle. What is still open is International Camera Repair in Pasadena, CA. But that is an even rarer repair facility.

After shopping online for years (BH, Adorama, etc) I discovered one of the last real camera stores in the Maryland-PA-Virginia area, Service Photo in Baltimore. Now I give them the majority of my business. To begin with, the prices on my favorite brands - Nikon and Fuji - are all pretty much controlled by the manufacturers, so the only "premium" I pay is state sales tax. But I've decided it's worth it for all the personal service I get. I can touch and feel everything before I buy it, and the sales staff are all photographers who actually use the gear that they sell. The owner is often seen on the sales floor, especially during special events, and he keeps in touch with his customer base with timely e-mails. For example, right after the Fuji XT-2 was announced, I got an e-mail asking if I wanted to be on the pre-order list. When the first shipment arrived I was away. But when I returned the next month I sent him and e-mail, and he set aside a unit until I got there in a couple of days. One of his salesman is a real Fuji nut, so I enjoy talking with him and getting advice. I'm also a Nikon shooter, and the store often has Nikon reps available for tech help and sensor cleaning. Take a look at the attached Sales Flyer for this weekend. Reps from Nikon, Canon, Sony and Fuji will be there along with special offers. I'll be there to pick up a new Fuji lens and to have my D750's sensor cleaned. And I'll be in the company of fellow photographers, all enjoying the excitement of a great sale and lots of great tech talk. You can't get that online.

I read the flyer and it sounds like a great store. Wish I lived closer! :-(

I remember a couple of others that I have been to and would recommend;

In the Dallas area Ritz Camera 5370 Lover's Lane (I went there just because of the address) they know their business and are helpful.

In the Rio Grande Valley Texas, Trevino's Photography 1101 N Cage, Pharr TX and Ultimate Electronice 507 West Expressway Mc Allen

While I was surfing I can across a web site with just what we are doing all laid out easy to understand. Here's a link
