I 2nd shot for a photographer yesterday-I shot on her cards, I invoiced her so she could send me payment, she responds back, sorry I only do my invoicing and payments on the 1st and 15th of each month. so now I have to wait 10 days to get paid...I have never had this before.... have you? She never mentioned this before either... I guess I am just annoyed :(

thats why most add 10-15% to the bill knowing they got to wait up to 30 days for payment

What did the contract say? You did have a contract, right?

No contract she never sent me one. she never stated anything about paying bills on 1st and 15th of each month either beforehand either. With 2nd shooting gigs I always get paid on the day of or the day after, never experienced this before, oh well ...

Honestly, your lucky it's only a short time to wait, I've been in situations like a previous post stated you can wait 30 -90 day's for large clients. Relax...

When I had my service business, I printed and handed an invoice on the spot. 90 percent of the time I was handed a check or ran their credit card. I started to do this after school systems would be 90-120 days out. Others that were frequent customers were 2 percent if paid in 10 days/net 30 days. Anyone past that dealt with my accountant (wife). She is great at collections😁.

Maggie, you can see that most here are MBA's! It is what it is, you'll just have to wait. Most people are honest and won't stiff ya. Those that do, you'll never see a dime, contract or no contract!! Be patient and hopefully you'll have a long and fruitful relationship and she'll even recommend you to other photographers when they ask her who she uses.
She'll probably say, " call Maggie, she's a great photographer and she won't bug you every two hours to get paid. Probably to busy shooting to bug ya"!!!

"YOU DID HAVE A CONTRACT, RIGHT" LoL, cut me a break!!!!!!!

Typical scenario. No written, legally binding contract. No up front questions, and little information revealed.

Lesson learned? Devil is hiding in the details!

Contracts:

1. Money changes hands at signing ($1.00 will do, with balance according to terms).
2. All principals must sign.
3. All signers must be over 18 years of age.
4. Must be notarized.
5. Must detail performance and payment terms and deliverables of the project.

Good luck.

Burk, loosen that tie, undo the top button on that button-up and let your hair down(oops, sorry about the hair thing! LoL) and enjoy life for a while. You're joking right?
Notarized....., really?!?! I'm involved in million dollar contracts and they aren't motorized!!
You would do all that to chase down $250?!?!
I guess that's why you're a millionaire and I'm not!!! LoL

MOTORIZED contracts??? Hmmm...

I did have a PMP Certification for a while. Contracts are a necessary evil of project management. Not quite a millionaire, though Herff Jones' ESOP WAS really good to us.

Even if you don't get a formal contract, it pays to ask the questions that a contract would answer.

In business, I HATE surprises.

I used to build data bases for small businesses and non profits as a side line during the evenings and weekends. Everything was done on a handshake. I think it lasted about 6 years and my best year only added $10K to my income. I found that working for myself I had to be salesman, worker, and bill collector. One customer who I knew pretty well as a business acquaintance took about 4 months to pay me after the job was done. I kept asking for my money every few weeks in a nice way, and eventually he paid. No one ever failed to pay me eventually, but all my customers were known to me through business acquaintances, so they wouldn't want to be known as being dishonest.

Maggie, does being annoyed get you anything?!
Either she changes her mind, or just relax and wait till the 15th.
Now if on the 15th she gives you a song and dance...., BREAK HER DANCING LEGS!!!

Maggie, here in the U.S., it's not uncommon to be paid a couple of weeks after completing a project. It's a billing cycle. Save being annoyed in case you aren't paid with in the time frame. Then, let us know who it was.
