Most all of us shop for something at Wal-Mart. I am not sure how many of you have used their price match policy. It has always been a fairly liberal policy as long as the item being matched is listed in a local competitor ad. I have used it numerous times on many different items. On August 1 Wal-Mart discontinued the price match policy in 500 of their stores. The problem seems to be that they won't tell the media which 500 stores. My son, who lives in Charlotte, NC discovered this at his local Wal-Mart when trying to do a price match 2 days ago. Looks like the Charlotte area stores are among the 500. Apparently the only notification to their customers is a small sign at the checkout register. So you have gathered your items and have some price matches but don't know that they no longer price match until you get to checkout.

I was at my local Wal-Mart yesterday and asked one of the sales associates about this and that person had not heard about the new policy. There were no sign at the register. So, apparently, our local store is not among the 500. But, be assured that they will extend this to all of their stores in the very near future, and I suspect that it will not hurt them one bit. Wal-Mart has done a magnificent job of "brainwashing" their customers that they are the best price in town.

What you expecting, price matching cut down on their profit, the most important thing in Walmart corporate mentality is the bottom line why do you think there pushing those self service cash register, when some sale associate (modern appellation for slave) point me toward selfsurvice I always answer why? you won't to loose you're job.

Not a problem for me. I haven't been in a Walmart for over 10 years. I simply disagree with their business practices and the way they treat their employees.

You have got that right. If you use price match they can't drive you to the self-checkout. I believe that is one of their motives for the move.

Not a big surprise, actually. Amazon announced they are going to stop showing "MSRP" (Manufacturer's Suggested List Price) on many items going forward.

Thanks to technology, pricing is becoming much more fluid than we are used to it being, and retailers are all struggling to figure out how to deal with that.

Medical authorities were perplexed, in recent years, as to what was causing a huge increase of the number of cases of tinnitus being reported in Benton County, Arkansas...until someone realized that the ringing in the ears was actually the sound of Sam spinning in his grave!

I have had trouble even trying to compare prices on some products because it seems there are different model numbers at different stores. I think maybe they have different numbers for the same product just to make price comparisons difficult.

Actually, Walmart is so big that many manufacturers actually put out a separate line of products, just for sale at Walmart! So, a popular product, say a BigBrandName SuperWidget, in your local gadget store, may cost $100, but the product named BigBrandName SuperWidget, at Walmart, is only $69.95. The problem is that while they are named the same, the Walmart version is cheaper and more shoddily made, and has a different manufacturer's part number than the one sold in your local gadget store.

you're right. This is also true of many items sold at so-called "Outlet" malls or stores. The items sold there, while possibly less costly than than the parent brand, are also more cheaply made. I really don't see Walmart as much different than any other mass retailer....none give particularly great pay or benefits to their employees, Walmart is the one always under the microscope simply because they are the largest.

Target does price-matching, but I do all my shopping online, so it doesn't really matter. I check Amazon first and then look around.

My son worked there while he was in college - horrible experience.
