Thanks for all the replies and suggestions.

I googled error 99 and tried ALL the suggestions I could find, to no avail; called Canon, walked through a few things with them, still no go. I sent it to my brother, who lives in a very large city with lots of camera repair shops and also knows some professional photographers.

I DO have a P&S... but it's just not the same.

I have also looked at the sites listed here, among others, on getting a used (or new!) t3i or 60D.... whichever one I decide on I'll still have to wait a while for, as my last name is not Jobs or Rockefeller, and my most recent lens purchase depleted my "photography" fund.

You should see me on Thursdays... the day our local radio station gives away $1000 at a certain time of day - - I'm frantically dialing and re-dialing on my land-line phone, while doing the same thing with my cell phone! LOL!!
Thanks for all the replies and suggestions. br br... (show quote)

Look at QVC...They have a T3i for $999.00 with an 18-55mm & a 55-250mm Both with IS and its on easy pay. 5 payments of about 200.00 on a credit card each month. and you get it in about a week. I think they also have just the body if you already have the lens...And if you use a Debit card there is no interest charged by the card co.

Hi wtompkins

Why don't you use Canon's loyalty program se below.

My Rebel XT died May 12, error 99; Canon wants minimum of $225 for repairs; I decided to just take that money and put it towards a new upgrade, but boy oh boy it's going to be a long summer without a camera while I save up for the T3i or 60D. To make matters even worse, I had just bought a new lens from a very nice guy on this forum not even two weeks before that, and then was given a very nice camera backpack for Mother's day.

~sigh~

BUT.... I am very pleased that I at least get to see what others are shooting here while I bide my time (im)patiently.

:)

Happy shooting to you all!

Thanks, but I don't use credit cards, I don't need any more lenses, just need the camera body, and I need to save up cash for a major purchase like this.

Canon loyalty program is still more expensive than B&H or KEH.

WTompkins, buy the T2i instead of the T3i. They are essentially the same camera but the T3i has a flippable screen. Save some money that way.

That flip screen is what sold me on the Canon 60D. Infact, the 60D is up one on the T3i which is up one on the T2i. I also payed the same price for 60D that I would have payed if I had gone for the T3i. The 60D has more to offer then either Cameras. I would also perfer the 60D over the 7D. Better yet, I wish I had a lot more money to spent... on... well, alot of things!

That's why I'll never go to FF - I'm fat, dumb, and happy with my 7D, and what I don't know, can't hurt me !! :)
.
Would have liked a flip screen on the 7D - but with Dual Digic 4, and magnesium weather sealed body instead of plastic - 7D still has it all over the 60D.

OK wtompkins

Wouldn’t you want a refurb buy Canon then from one of the other outfits at least you will know the refurb is done right the 1st time w/a warranty?

PS I check B&H they sell USED for the same price as canon does refurb's w/ warranty!

It's a paypal product. You can pay in cash, no need to sign up for anything.

Referb usually has nothing with repair.... once a store brakes the seal or
removes it for display...... or if a customer just changes his/her mind.....
the store can not sell it as new although it really is new.

:-) :-) :-) :-) :-) :-) :-)

Here is a link to an easy to follow video on how to troubleshoot and fix your problem and perhaps not have to send the camera back to canon.

I just googled canon error 99 and that is what I found --- hope this helps to solve your problem. :)
