I've started using LR4 to edit images, and it's amazing what it can do. Question 1. After I make the changes, how do I save the image? There is no File > Save as... >

Question 2. I lost the menu that is spread across the top of the screen - Library, Develop, Map, etc. I know I can get it back by putting the cursor up there, but how can I keep it there?

Go to lynda.com -- I believe there is a 30 day trial -- have good videos on LR.

This site has just added LR4 to it's tutorials....quite good.

I share the original poster's frustration and losing menu bars. It happens to me sometimes and I fish around and find a little triangle/arrow thing and click on it that usually brings whatever I am missing back. However, if I can't do it on my own, I usually google it and someone else has had the same problem and the answer is available. I am amazed at how easy it is to get free information on how to use Lightroom.

I'm surprised that Adobe doesn't include Help files with its software, like every other company. Usually, selecting Help brings me to a page with a listing of topics and a Search box. With Adobe, you get transferred online and have to choose one of the topics they offer - no Search box.

I'll take a look at Lynda.

Yeah, seems many of the bigger companies are adopting this practice...like Autodesk.

The easiest "save" feature is in Library mode to just use export. Check the menu there for the many option you have available depending on your needs. But-----you can configure LIghtroom to export directly to Photoshop and from there to save. With Lightroom you have many options---check out Scot Kelby's book---easy to read, very informative and he provides lots of little flow tips that are great time savers.

After you finish retouching you can export your photo and save as a raw with side car or a DNG no side car files open in photoshop or elements.

Jerry, bought Scott Kelby's book,s "adobe photoshop or 4.". Just started doing the lessons. I have it downloaded onto my iPad & iPhone. Expensive, but helpful.
Found out about the export/save function by trial and error.

Dumb question.... Is Light Room 4 a stand alone program? I only use Picassa not Photo Shop.

Hi jerryc41,

You've already gotten several really great answers. Another option for toggling the menus off and on are the F5 thru F8 keys. Take care & ...

Lightroom 4 is standalone. There are plug-ins (some are free) available as well, but LR 4 is standalone.

Is the menu show/hide a Windows thing? I only have LR3, but I don't see anything in preferences that would cause that. On my Mac, there is a "full screen" display option that will do the same thing, but it seems to be limited to Apple programs, not the Adobe stuff.

This isn't the full screen thing. Originally, I had the menu on top, and now it's gone. I can get it back temporarily by putting the cursor up there.

there is a small arrow just above the picture that is open it turns into a down arrow that will show the menu with ( design, library . ect )
