the G15 is a great camera, so is the G16. I carry my G15 in places where my DSLR would be unwelcome or a nuisance to carry. It is a great low light camera. Takes pictures in raw or JPEG or both. I've also made some nice videos with it.

I purchased the Panasonic LUMIX DMC FX1000 for travel. It is not mirrorless, but it is much lighter than my Nikon 7100. It has a 24-400 focal length. Easy to use, shoots raw, and takes excellent shots....Still longing for a mirrorless camera...looking at Olympus or Fuji.

Oh which pocket cam to take on vaca ???? I usually end up taking my RX100 MIV -- but I just bought something kinda cool.... the new Sony HX80. It has an EVF, selfie screen, and it has 30x zoom. ( you may really enjoy the zoom for Europe) So far I am really liking this guy, it is very little and pocket-able. It does have Manual but it doesn't look fun to use - so I don't. Whatever you get remember P & S's all do much better with a fresh charge - so don't forget your European plug or converter !!

I took only my Fuji Xt1, last year and on day 2 was wishing I had a fill frame, with me. The low light performance is just not there. No matter what others write about the noise was to much for me. Out side it's a great camera just not in the old churches.

Sony RX100 M3 is a good choice. Buy the M4 model only if you need 4K video. I've been to Europe many times. You won't need or use a long zoom in Europe.

Yes, it is very possible to travel around the world with only one camera. A compact mirrorless camera is a great investment for those who want to travel light and the selection of interchangeable lenses for them continue to grow.
Yes, there is such a thing as a compact full frame body and as has been already pointed out to you it is a Sony A 7R with its 36 megapixels.

The already mentioned Sony RX100 is a good choice. I used the original version for a few trips, including one to Europe. It uses a 1" sensor and is truly a pocket sized camera. Images enlarged well for some wall hangers. The primary weakness of the Sony RX100 is lack of zoom range.

Since then I upgraded to the Panasonic LX100. It uses a little larger M4/3 sensor and includes a set of dials that makes manual shooting more controllable. It needs more of a cargo pocket or small purse. Instead I use a belt pouch or leather "murse" I got in France. This is my favorite camera I've owned in 60 years of trying to be a photographer! The Zeiss lens performance is impressive. Like the Sony RX100, it lacks zoom range.

Another choice is the Panasonic ZS100. The key components are that it is pocketable (like the RX100) and has the 1" sensor (like the RX100). But, it has the "good zoom" where the other two do not. (25-250mm equiv.). It has a lens ring that can be assigned to a variety of functions, including manual focus. Based on your listed requirements, this might be the best bet.

All three do RAW, are compact and have "high performance". There is nothing compact with a "full frame" sensor, but all three have "larger" sensors (and prices) than the typical travel cameras. I like to think of my travel cameras as compact with near full frame performance. (In fact, I don't have or want a bulky full frame camera of any sort!)

While I'm posting, can anyone tell me why the camera makers are so narrow minded about camera names? RX100, LX100 and ZS100? One letter difference?

Another enthusiastic vote for the Canon G16 (or a G15 if you want to save and buy used). I own all sorts of camera gear including Sony mirrorless rigs. The Sony cameras are fabulous, but as with most things in photography, there are compromises. The reason I own and use the G15 is because it is the smallest camera I own that can do many things that I need, but yet still fit in a pocket. The fixed lens Sony is a spectacular performer, but a fixed lens is the dealbreaker for me in a "travel" camera while in tourist mode.

It is "pocketable" but not in a tight jeans' pocket. Check the size in person would be wise. There are smaller cameras that will fit in that hypothetical jeans pocket, but not with a viewfinder, a decent lens range, ability to shoot raw, infinitely adjustable from "push here dummy" to full manual, excellent image quality and priced right.

Truth is, I do not use the G15 very often since I seldom have the luxury of just shooting for fun as a tourist, but when I do travel and I may have opportunity to play Tommy Tourist, I do throw the G15 in with either my Nikon DSLR or Sony mirrorless gear.

For $500, it is a steal.
