You should never call back, some of those #'s are from over seas and you will be billed for making them and the one at the other end profits, similar to the old 900 #'s

Is that true even thought the cell phone says its coming from Warrenton, VA or somewhere else in the US? Thanks for the tip!

Even the IRS might out source calls to people who do not pay their taxes.

I was wondering if I am the only person in the US to get bombarded with calls from folks that sound Indian, but say they are IRS agents and I should call them so we can clear up this terrible action they have brought against me. I have at least 10 calls to my cell phone from 10 different areas of the country. I am a retired accountant and realize this is bulls##t. So, if you have had any of these calls, please make me feel better. thanks.

I might add that I have also had calls claiming to be Microsoft or sometimes Dell saying they have received virus alerts from my computer. I played along with one until he wanted me to sign on my computer and let him have access so he could clear up this very dangerous virus. When I told him I was in my car, and I would call him back.

Is this on your landline? We used to get constant calls about lowering the interest rate on our credit cards. We've now gotten rid of the telemarketer call by going to cell phones and being very careful regarding to whom we give our numbers.

Be careful with this there have been scams out there on this matter. If theres a problem the IRS would send you a letter first.

We had the same problem, 4,5,6,calls a day for all kinds of scams.
Tried blocking numbers, whole area codes. It cut down on the calls considerably.
But...
We finally subscribed to NOMOROBO. Wonderful!!!
Cuts down on the annoying calls at least 90-95%.
It's free and works with TMC, Uverse and other VOIP phone services.
They have a database of at least 5000 scam numbers and constantly update.

Go online and see if your phone service will work with them.

I have received the calls from the "IRS" also but most recently calls to tell me that I'm having a problem with Windows and they ask me to sign on so they can fix the issue. I kindly tell them that I just replaced all of my windows with new Pella windows and they are dumbfounded - evidently they do not sell Pella windows in India.

I have had that call more than once. Just to be a pain, I listened, seemed concerned, and asked what was the serial number of the machine because I have lots of computers. They couldn't answer, I told them to call when they had more information.

Not sure, I suppose it would depend on your plan/carrier. But many don't have free overseas service. I've heard some real high $ nightmares regarding those who have returned calls to out of country #'s. And trying to get them forgiven, even a bigger nightmare. (SIT)

IRS will not call you on the phone. They will send you notification by US Mail. Or they will send an IRS agent to pick you up, before they take you in they will let you call the local police to check them out to make shore they are real agents.

As many as they are, you would think that In today's hi tech world, those type calls can be traced to the perpetrator and they can be prosecuted !

As far as I know, the IRS does not communicate by phone. They use the good, old-fashioned snail mail service.
