Sounds wonderful. Thank you.
Looking forward to seeing some pics when you get back :)

Peggy's Cove has a very scenic spot near the lighthouse. I was there on a rainy day and got some nice images. Prince Edward Island is well worth the trip-beautiful! Have a great time.
Absolutely not to be missed!

SWIM?? If the water in Maine is cold, what's it like in NS??
We were swimming in a pond in a campground that was made with dam where a river went into the ocean. The water was still pretty cool.
First, I have to tell you Peggy's Cove is the absolutely best place to go if you like to shoot boring-ass, cliche, set-up so a drooling moron can capture them, images. The day we went it was so crowded we didn't even get out of our car.
The rest of NS and Cape Breton are wonderful! It rained quite a bit while we were there, but that just enhanced the depth of the mood. I was surprised at an earlier responder's comment about opportunities to shoot along the Cabot Trail; I found there were many pull-offs and that when I couldn't find one to match me desire to shoot, traffic was sparse and drivers understanding, so shooting was easy.
I also can't remember the name of the bog, but it was well marked and worth walking. Everywhere you go, just keep your eyes peeled, and you'll find some incredible subjects for your photography. It's a wonderful place. Embrace "off the beaten path detours." One other note: We took the ferry from/to Portland and loved it. We rented a cabin for the overnight cruise to NS and just bummed around on the ship for the daytime return.

Follow the shore road east of Halifax either towards or from Cape Breton for some down home experiences and probably some of the best opportunities for photographs.
Mahone Bay (west of Halifax) is another great place. While there, you are a short distance from Lunenburg, home of the Bluenose schooner (on the reverse of the Canadian dime).
The Bay of Fundy is another place to visit. The bay is long and narrow causing the incoming tide to create a bore (wave) that can, at times, be quite spectacular!
I have family in N.S. and have been there many times.

Gordon Bok has a "Bay of Fundy" song that tells how she will wear your life away.

Just remembered a park called Kejimkujik- very nice photo ops as well. Found this growing on the ground here in Kejimkujik Park. Doesn't look edible?

My wife and I will be traveling to Nova Scotia next month. Does anyone have any favorite photo op sites or undiscovered, out-of-the-way gems? Also: is Prince Edward Island worth extending the trip? We'd love to hear about your experiences. Thanks.
We spent 10 days last June driving through Cape Brenton & Nova Scotia and the top highlight of our trip was the puffin tour with Donelda and her husband. It's an unforgettable experience and you are guaranteed to see puffins, eagles and tons more. The eagles know the sound of her boat engines and her voice over the loud speaker. They fly over the boat waiting for her to throw them a fish. You can track their dives into the water right in front of you! Plenty of photo opportunities. You won't be disappointed.
http://puffinboattours.com. The best place we stayed for 3 nights was in Cape Brenton in our own air conditioned cottage right on the ocean's edge. Great photo opps, unbelievable breakfasts and gourmet dinners right here.
http://seascapecoastalretreat.com. Easy to stay here and explore the Cabot Trail. There is a goat farm just down the road from the cottage. Spend some time there with your camera as well. Need more suggestions, just send me an email.
You might want to check out Meat Cove on the northern tip. Great views. We even watched humpback whales feeding from the cliff tops.

P.E.I. definitely. Blue sky, white clouds, red sand, sea everywhere. I liked it even when it was raining. But, I shouldn't oversell it, right? ☺
