MAYBE they figure that they will get more exercise by typing a request for info than having to thumb through all of those pages looking for an answer. Plus, they can post a request on here for info, then go out and do something important (like peering in the unmarried (or married) lady next door's windows to see what she is doing) while they wait on their post to be answered. However, if the requests for info bothers you, then don't answer them. You can always skip over them and go to the important stuff about pixel peeping or comparing Mac to PC.

I looked in my manual. I cannot find the section on how to shoot a wedding. What settings do I use? Lens? Should I use off camera flash. How much should I charge? All missing in my manual.

You're so right! And that begs the question in my mind, what idiot decreed that the instructions be printed on the Outside of the paint can where dribbles so easily obliterate the words. They should be applied to the inside where, as one uses up the paint, more and more of the vital wordage is enticingly revealed for our perusal.

Your uncle sounds like one of the more veteran of that class of specialists.

"Manuals are for sissies": His opinion is similar to those which I have encountered from expert people in a number of varying occupations and I can understand that an old hand such as he would not be bothered by such trivialities...........but what IS that ticking?

Bottom of the can! Much easier to access. You start painting, you have a question, just turn the can over and Voila! There's the info! Any idiot can figure that out! Don't know why the paint companies haven't!

That is where the thing to do is for you get off your backside and actually go out and take photographs.

EXPERIENCE isn't in any manual and no-one can tell you how to be a photographer in a few short lines of text in a forum.

If you have experience you will have no need to ask such hypothetical questions.

P.S. If you've never shot a wedding before you'd better tell the poor unfortunate couple before hand. Don't charge for your fiddling until you know what you are doing.

I guess the point is if you don't like answering questions the question is why are you on a forum that lets one post boring pictures of birds and flowers but also allows one to help people. i agree some people's questions are really basic. I have been on the giving end of many things in my life. It is of no amazement how people just don't understand things. But then I understand I have a good ability to be on the up side of understanding. I just share to those who can not do this. Not a religions person but any stretch of the imagination but......isn't that what Gods intended us to do. Not kill each other over self proclaimed images of him, put money in the basket at church or put down other peoples beliefs. All he want us to do is get along and help each other.

Whenever I have been asked for advise after buying a new camera that has been my first answer, read the instructions manual with camera in hand and make notes of those functions that are important to your photography.
The camera manual in general is a good source for learning the camera. I keep those manuals in a flash drive especially for when I travel. Because they have a USP port it is so easy to fit them to the computer when something comes up and it is necessary to read those instructions.

You're going to be taking the piss for this post. Though, I do tend to agree with you.

I am only too happy to help people as long as they show that they have made a reasonable effort to find out for themselves and if something really is not in the manual then a forum such as this can be a great help. My gripe however is with people who are simply too lazy to look.

Besides, many cannot understand the manual.
Manuals often read as if they were produced by this sequence:

Japanese engineers write down specs and procedures in Japanese Techno Babble.
