Note how many apps you have running and what amount of that 32 GB ram is bing used for your apps and what is free.... also check if Lightroom has the use GPU checked or unchecked under Lightroom's performance tab under its preferences.... if checked, uncheck and try. Sometimes the GPU use is the problem.

Yup...I have to do this with Adobe Illustrator as well...makes a HUGE difference.

Usually on a Mac, the spinning colour wheel indicates you don't have enough memory to complete the current task.

Yes, that is what Bill (burkphoto) and I are addressing --- clean up all the stuff that hogs machine memory and interferes with a nice fast, responsive user experience.

Not the only choice, it could be many thinks related to hardware or software. It generally means the computer does not have enough cycles to handle all the tasks it has in queue. It can happen if you don't have enough RAM, causing pages. It might mean your start disk is full or getting full, hence no room for paging. It could easily be a software app taxing your CPU. Best thing to do is use Activity Monitor to find what is taking all the CPU resources.

For the spinning wheel, in my case, I have 32 GB RAM, 4GB video and was not too worried till the main iMAC monitor went black and only showed up on the secondary monitor when booting. Prior to this, the TWO monitors would go black for 1-2 seconds prior to coming back as if nothing was wrong. Turns out that Apple (Palo Alto - University Av) ran prelim tests and found nothing but Amber suggested I leave it overnight for some more tests. Turns out the one of the two 8GB memory sticks was bad. Since all was purchased at Apple, and I had extended the warranty, no charge.

Now I just downloaded OnyX and hopefully will see problems that way occur in the future?

Do not leave more than six web pages open in the Dock. Safarie eats all your memory overnight.

Just unchecked the graphic processor box. LR loads quickly again. Didn't realise it was checked. Might that have happened during an upgrade? Worth double/triple checking regularly.
