Keep in mind that the Picasa application will not be updated after March 1st. Everyone will have to migrate their photos from Picasa storage to Google Photo storage which is only a few minute migration for most people.
The death knell is the Picasa Application is end of life. No improvements, no security updates, no compatibility updates. So you will have to implement another photo manager/editor in short order.
The question you should be asking about and exploring is: "what manager/editor should I be considering to replace the Picasa desktop application?"

I successfully moved images from my Time Machine (Mac) to my new Seagate 1TB ext. HD. Now I would like to allow Picasa to organize the images onto my MacBook Pro. I'm having trouble. The images don't seem to want to load into Picasa. (Picasa has been my image organizer of choice for years) I can view the thumbnails on the Photo viewer included with my new MacBook Pro, but I can't view, or even load them, them into Picasa. The images cannot be viewed full screen, or allow to be moved to another program, such as Capture One. I'll install PS CS 6 as soon as I can, but when I right click on an image, nothing happens. Apple support can't seem to figure it out either, and I'm getting a big time run around. What to do? I'm been trying now for a couple of weeks. I left a message with a senior advisor, working for Apple to call me back, so maybe he can help. Thanks in advance.

I successfully moved images from my Time Machine ... (

FYI, Google is no longer supporting Picasa. They have a new program and are dropping Picasa in favor of the new program.
Although I use Photoshop to edit my photos...I use to use Picasa to store them for web sharing....I now use Shutterfly, however, I don't want to loose the ability to view previously uploaded Picasa photo albums once Picasa disappears. How do I move those albums to new "Google+". By the way I'm sort of computer challenged so simple step by step is what I need. Thanking you in advance for your advice and input.
Google is getting rid of Picasa.
Picasa is in the process of closing down, you will have transfer your images to "Google Photos" which is the replacement for Picasa.
I will attach an extract from the article which explains what the procedure is to move to Google Photos, which in my opinion is far better than Picasa.
Desktop application
As of March 15, 2016, we will no longer be supporting the Picasa desktop application. For those who have already downloaded thisor choose to do so before this dateit will continue to work as it does today, but we will not be developing it further, and there will be no future updates. If you choose to switch to Google Photos, you can continue to upload photos and videos using the desktop uploader at photos.google.com/apps.
Picassa is no more Google intends to move or start the use of Google photos. Hope you were able to transfer your photos.
Let us know
I did finally get Picasa up and running properly.
