Picasa Question-Moving and viewing images

I successfully moved images from my Time Machine (Mac) to my new Seagate 1TB ext. HD. Now I would like to allow Picasa to organize the images onto my MacBook Pro. I'm having trouble. The images don't seem to want to load into Picasa. (Picasa has been my image organizer of choice for years) I can view the thumbnails on the Photo viewer included with my new MacBook Pro, but I can't view, or even load them, them into Picasa. The images cannot be viewed full screen, or allow to be moved to another program, such as Capture One. I'll install PS CS 6 as soon as I can, but when I right click on an image, nothing happens. Apple support can't seem to figure it out either, and I'm getting a big time run around. What to do? I'm been trying now for a couple of weeks. I left a message with a senior advisor, working for Apple to call me back, so maybe he can help. Thanks in advance.

I'm not too computer smart but I changed over to Mac about a year ago and am still looking to get all of my photos into it. I was told all of my problems are the incompatibility from all my old files are in Windows and do not load directly into the Mac. There are a few programs that will make them compatible but have not tried them yet. Look on U tube and there some instructions there. Good luck

Be aware that Picasa is making some changes soon.

Try telling Picasa to transfer the pix from your ext HD to the 'new' computer rather than having Picasa 'find' the files that you've moved. This MAY work for you.

Good luck

I successfully moved images from my Time Machine ... (show quote)
What format are these files - JPG, TIF, some kind of raw?

RAW and JPG, and a few PSD's.
All my files were on my old Mac, that got destroyed. (The cat's still alive)

The problem is my new computer. Not enough HD space. I have 485GB's of images on my Time Machine! Only about 250GB on my new Mac. I fell into the salesman's trap and got took. They comped me the HD.

I just read about that from another Hog that posted a link describing Google's new Picasa replacement. Picasa will not be updated, after March (I think).
Thanks,

Picasa, and I assume their new program, will simply search your computer HD and load them for viewing, editing, and organizing. It's nondestructive, so it just sends a copy to wherever you send it. The original will always be there.

OK, try my original suggestion anyway. Let Picasa just 'index' the pix on the ext HD rather than move them. If this works, you'll need to have the ext HD connected to the computer each time you access the pix with Picasa again.

Can you 'transplant' the HD from the dead computer into the new computer? Or transfer that HD into an external HD case and still access your files? Or did whatever 'killed' the computer prove equally deadly to the HD?

Again, good luck.

Thanks twowindsbear. I'll give that a try. Not sure how to index the pictures. But I'll look into it. Simplymac (the new Mac store) said they could pull the HD and install it in a HD case and see if it will work. 80 miles to the store, so it might take a while.

Picasa will do the indexing.

The HD case should be a DIY project. Well, it is on a Windows machine. Open the computer box, remove & HD & unplug the cables from the HD. Figure out what size ext HD box you'll need to get from your local OfficeMax/Depot-Staples-BestBuy-Amazon-etc. Fit it into the ext box. You're good to go. YMMV with a Mac, though.

I think I got it. It's now in the process of 'indexing' (I beleive). I'll let you know.
