The largest one is near Tuscon, Arizona. I live in Phoenix and have been to Tucson several times but never to the yard. I've seen lots of photos though and it looks like a fascinating place.

Guessing by the photo that is 'you', you're in Utah? if so, then M.D.A.F. base is a good call. Since it's not really an 'active" base you could contact the base Public Affairs office and explain what you'd like to do and might be granted access. Also, again assuming Utah, Hill AFB near Ogden has a rather nice museum with outdoor and indoor exhibits.

The U.S.M.C. AIR STATION in San Diego CA has a good selection of air craft and helicopters. It is free to the public, also closed on Mondays.

There was a place in the mid 90's above Santa Rosa, CA that was doing restorations of B 26's, P 47's,, a B25 and various other WWII classics. The guys may be too old to still be there but it was great bunch of planes and the guys were a world of knowledge. All I can remember is it was near a small airport.

Where are you located?
There are excellent old plane photo ops: Any air show, Planes of Fame in Chino, San Diego Air Museum in Balboa Park, Palm Springs Air Museum. When you find one, they will tell you where there are others. If you time it right you can get one taking off or landing, or in flight.

PLEASE don't repeat the mistakes others on this website do by NOT reading or paying attention to the posts.

The OP is looking for an airplane junkyard. NOT a museum or airshow. ;)

Look near Phoenix AZ. Old planes are kept there because of the dry climate.

And why do you think a museum isn't an airplane junk yard? Most if not all planes in one either can't fly any longer or be used for anything productive. Kind of like any other junk we encounter. I'm interested in your definition is all.

There is no need to debate this issue Dave. Capt. Jim said EXPLICITLY in his OP EXACTLY what he was looking for.

The fact that you raised this question only illustrates my point about folk not paying attention to posts. :(

BS. I was simply asking you for your definition and did not reference anything about the OP ("I'm interested in your definition is all."). If you can't or won't answer so be.

Well... to smooth your obviously ruffled feathers... NO; a museum is not a junk yard.

Junk yards are filled with junk. NOT items that are on display and have value other than their value as parts.

IF the OP wanted recommendations for a museum, he wouldn't have made the comparison to Old Car City or asked for an airplane junk yard. ;)

No ruffled feathers here. Just mildly surprised by the indignant response from a simple question. But then again after giving it some thought maybe not so much.
