Take both those lenses. In my opinion, none of your gear is heavy let alone when combined.

Agreed, that candid shot might not be there if you're required to switch lenses.

I went through Monument Valley with one camera and kept changing out two lenses. It was a royal pain. Once I bought my D800, I keep my 10-24mm on my D7000 and don't change lenses anymore on vacation.

The two lenses you have quoted do cover a good range, unless you intend to photograph any wild life. So for landscape and general work the two lenses should meet your requirements.
In addition I would include in your photo bag a circular polarizer and some graduated neutral density filters (soft)
Enjoy your trip.

Just a short question, G M P.

Did you try Googling something like "Galapagos photography tips"? The results include a number of articles and a video or two from photographers and travelers who have actually "been there, done that."

Just a suggestion.

I've never been there but I have friends who have been there and I've seen the photos. From what I've seen I think that the two lenses you have will cover what you need.

I would take both lenses. You have them and the coverage with both are different and you will use that difference to capture images. Have fun.

Looks like you want to travel light, do you plan on carrying a monopod or tripod? Maybe a single 18-200 would be good. In my experience, anything more than 200 needs stabilization. Just my experience. ;)

I just took a similar trip. I used a 16-35 and a 70 to 200. Worked out very well. (both 2.8) I use a Black rapid Yeti Strap with a lensflipper that worked amazingly well.

As long as you have your wide covered by the 18 and the zoom by your 300, you should be all set.

I went about 10 years ago
You probably do not need the longer lens as the animals are very "tame" and approach humans fearlessly. However, you are not allowed to approach them. You have to stay on designated paths that take you near the animals. I took an Olympus 300 E-volt with 14-45 lens. (No, the camera is not 100 years old) There were only one or two situations where I wished I had had a longer lens. The 18 - 135 should be plenty. As another writer stated, you have to carry everything with you. Enjoy - the nature trip of a lifetime!
