Both cameras also have a battery grip on them. But the hand strap and neck strap do a nice job giving me a break.:)

Erv, I've got a Sigma 28-300mm lens, but that thing is a MONSTER! A little too much of a good thing for my purposes, me thinks!

I'm curious if there are any of you, like me, who keep one particular lens on one of your cameras (assuming you have more than one body) at all times?

There seems like every once in a while, one of those "spur of the moment" photo ops will present itself and I don't have time to dig through my camera case and look for a lens that I think will be appropriate for the occasion.

The lens that has filled that niche for me is a Tamron AF XR (IF) 28-200mm f:3.5 - 5.6 Macro lens that is ALWAYS attached to one of my Pentax DSLR's. I was lucky enough to find this pristine lens at a yard sale a couple of years ago for the princely sum of $15.00! It is the Silver Version, and an early production run (Ser. # 000404). The lens reviews give it so-so marks, but I believe that mine must be either an exceptional copy of this lens, or as I suspect, being an early production run, there was more QC and closer tolerances kept on the early ones. I have another one (also a Silver Version) that is also an early production copy (Ser.# 000794) and it too mimics my other Silver Version. In any event, neither of mine adhere to the reviews I've read on it.... not by a LONG SHOT!

Mine has proven itself to be extremely sharp throughout the entire focal length and, with a close-focus magnification of 1:4, it has provided me with some amazingly sharp close-ups with amazing bokeh.

There has never been an impromptu situation that this lens has not performed to my standards. This is not to say that if I had time and I had a pre-arranged subject, such as photographing bees or some extreme close-ups of flower stamens or some such, I wouldn't opt for something different, but even in those situations, it would still do pretty dang good! I LOVE this lens!

My carry around lens on my Pentax K-3 is a Sigma 18-200mm F3.5-6.3 DC Macro HSM which works pretty well in most situations.

For me, it is the Sony/Zeiss 16-70 mm f/4 on the Sony A6000 and the Nikon 18-300 f/3.5-6.3 on the D7100...both are excellent on my cameras.

Nowdays it is two bodies - Olympus E-M5Mark II
A 12-40, f2.8 is on one and a 40-150 f2.8 is on the other.

For everyday use, I keep an 18-55 wr lens on a Pentax K20D. Because I have used it so much, taking pictures is almost automatic, well, manual mode automatic. Whenever I am up to something, I use either the Pentax or a Nikon D7000 with whatever lens seems right. Am a big fan of older lenses and manual focus is not a problem but a welcome part of the process. Most of the time I guess you could say I prefer older, (and cheaper), digital that just does the job.

You and I seem to be living in parallel worlds! I usually keep my 18-55mm WR on one of my K-50's. I don't understand the relatively low marks for sharpness on the Pentax Forum reviews, because mine is one of the sharpest lenses I've ever owned.... bar NONE! The standard kit lens 18-55mm is reasonably sharp, but the WR variety is worlds apart in sharpness!

I too am an older manual lens fan, with an ever-growing collection..... all Pentax, with the exception of an occasional older Vivitar, especially the Series One group. I have a Vivitar Series One 28-200mm that will rival any lens I own for sharpness, with the exception of my Pentax-FA 50mm and 100mm macros. They are in a world all their own.

I just acquired a K10D a couple of weeks ago in a horse-trading deal. It seems to have a cult following of sorts and when the opportunity came along, I picked it up, mostly to see what all the fuss was about. I have no owner's manual and it's a lot different than the others I own, so my learning curve is more of a 90-degree angle! Apparently, it's supposed to have some amazing color rendition, even though it has the exact same CCD sensor as my older K2000. At this point, I'm not real crazy about it.

I have completely lost faith in the ratings on Pentax forum. My 18-55 is MUCH better than they rate it. It seems to me that a lot of those dudes knock of a couple of points if they can call it a 'kit' lens. Fine by me. Keeps the price down. It's a lot better than I am, that's why it's on the camera so much. Get some sleep! Sleep good / shoot good.

My Olympus E-PL5 has either the 25mm f/1.8 or the 14-42 R II on it. The 25mm is my walk-around lens because it's always too long or too short and I'm walking around all the time.

My Kodak S-1 always has the 12-45mm on, because this lens is just slightly better than the Olympus 14-42.

My Panasonic GM1 has the Pentax 110 f/2.8 fixed aperture 24mm on it, because it fits in a pocket just like my favorite four thirds camera of the early 1980s, the Pentax Auto 110.

I get really PO'ed when they throw around terms like "Entry level" and "Kit lens." I beg to differ about the K-50 being an "entry level" camera. Just because it doesn't have 4 more MP than the latest whizz-bang model certainly doesn't relegate it to the dust bin! But, that dog has been kicked around enough already.

I keep a pocket zoom in one shirt pocket all the time.
I have a 30X Fuji HS10 bridge camera in a small case on the table near my desk.
When they aren't both set up with long lenses for birds I put my 24-105L on one of my bodies, usually the 6D.

Dew, maybe you should try a real lens on a real camera?!?! You might be shocked at what a real lens/camera combo will achieve, but if nothing else, you might find those reviews were actually being kind to your set-up!!!
Must be a reason that nocody use those junkie little cameras!!!!!!

I have a couple of great zooms for my a6000, but the lens I usually have on the camera is a Sigma 30mm f/2.8 prime lens.
