Post a shot here and check the store original box so the exif gets posted with the download.

You can also send a shot to this link.

Thanks guys, Myshuttercount.com says my last shot is 475.
It looks as though they have installed a new shutter!

Panic over. Thank you all.

Interesting! I didn't think they "could/would" reset the shutter count for any reason. It "seems" that is not entirely true :|

Could it be that the mirror box and shutter are normally a single assembly? A search of the internet does seem to allude to that possibly.

Ebay lists a D610 mirror box and shutter assembly for about $220.00 used.

Yes, that's been my impression. Maybe Rick Riggins can clue us in on this.

Hi all, recently my Nikon D610 developed a focusing problem. Randomly it would just refuse to focus.
I sent back under warranty, but not to Nikon. They informed me that the prism box, (?), was kaput and they needed to order on from Japan.
This they did and the focusing is back to normal.

One strange thing has happened that I only noticed today!
When I sent in the camera there were over 8000 actuations recorded. Today I notice the last shot I took was 465!
As near as I can tell the actuation record was about 200 when I got back the camera. I would have thought that resetting in this area would not be possible, from a legal point at least.

Is this a normal thing when you have a new prism box fitted?

I await you expert opinions with interest.

Thank you.

Jimbo :)
Hi all, recently my Nikon D610 developed a focusin... (show quote)

465 is not the shutter count, 465 left on card.

Was it the Shutter Count or the Picture Numbering system reset to 0? These are different counts, the first is actual shutter actuation's and the second is a reset-able picture numbering system.

I would definitely question Nikon about this. Very unusual. Please keep us informed.

When I sent my D600 in under service advisory to replace the shutter mechanism, it had over 9000 shutter counts. When I got the camera back, it showed much less shutter count - either around 1000 or 2000 - I don't remember the exact count. Asked Nikon about this but got no straight answer from them. At least I know that the shutter count number can be changed - how? I do not know.

At least, the new shutter mechanism works great. Only need cleaning every couple of thousand shuts.

Sorry, if Myshuttercount returned 465, then it is from the EXIF info of the image, which is the image number, or shutter count at the time that the image was taken, NOT how many shots are left on the card - that would be displayed on the camera LCD.

All Nikon cameras since like 2008 place the current shutter count in the EXIF data of every image taken, it is never reset like the file name number sequence. It is the odometer of the camera.

Nikon has a strict policy never to reset shuttercount no matter what service is performed. If they did you would never see a refurb body with a shuttercount more than 1.

Well, when I first returned my D600 for the shutter problem the camera had 200+- exposures. When I received it back it had over 10,000!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I called them about this and got the usual runaround and not a decent answer, they inferred there is not a place where you can check your shutter count! To answer the question about the count on a new camera, when I got the replacement for the D600, the D610 had five actuations.

Didn't Nikon have lots of problems with the D600 that they would not admit to? Finally they replaced it with the D610 to fix the issue I think.

Check the serial number branded into the EXIF of the photos against the serial number on the camera. It is possible to change just the bottom part of the camera which has the serial number label. If they do not match you have a different camera.

That is true. After the second time I sent the D600 in I asked for a D610 as a replacement. I have to admit the lady immediately said, "yes," which kinda floored me. I had to return the D600 before they sent me the D610. Surprisingly, all they wanted back was the camera, so I was able to keep the battery, charger and everything else that was originally in the D600 box.

I understand it was China who really pushed Nikon to replace D600s, they would not let Nikon sell any D600s in their country.
