I just purchased the 7D MKII with the 18-135 IS STM kit lens and grip as a Christmas Present to myself, and I'm in awe of this set up. I upgraded from a 60D to shoot my grandson's sports activities. I don't do "street", but wondering just how well it would work, because it is indeed a beast.

I have interest in purchasing a Canon 7D Mark 2. I am wondering if anyone has experience utilizing this body for street photography.
I do not shoot sports-action or birds (the primary use of the body) but may want the option
I am currently using a 5D Mark 3 for the body of my work with a 40D (10 years old) as a backup.
The 40D (in my mind) is still an exceptional body and I go back and forth often utilizing the crop for candid portraits
The other alternative is to purchase the 5D Mark 3 but at $1,000 plus a bunch of "stuff" the 7D Mark 2 is a good deal
Any input will be appreciated

If you want one, buy one. It's your money. I can tell by reading this post that you want one. Really, I can tell. So look for a deal and buy one. There are a lot of deals on them now since it's Christmas. There will probably be post Christmas sales on them too. Good time to buy one. You have my blessing.
40D is a great choice for the street. Less so in low light.
You have some great cameras for the street or just about anything for that matter.
Smaller? - Consider the Sony a6000. Now that's a street, travel, and sports camera!
For STREET PHOTOGRAPHY... I'd want a smaller, lighter, less conspicuous camera than 7DII or original 7D. Both are very similar in size and weight to full frame 5DII/III. (I shoot mostly with a pair of 7D and a 5DII).
So I'd get a 70D or even a T6s instead... or if used is a possibility, maybe 60D... or the smallest/lightest option, an SL1. Or, since big telephotos are uncommon for street photography, wide angles are used more often... even a full frame 6D (the best low light/high ISO camera Canon makes right now, aside from the 1DX).
70D is still quite capable of sports and other action shooting. It and the T6i/T6s use a slightly dumbed down version of the 19-point AF system that was introduced in the original 7D. 70D can shoot 7 frames per second, pretty close to the 8 fps of the original 7D (but not as fast as the 10 fps of the 7DII). 60D isn't bad... it has basically the same AF system as 40D and 50D, but is slightly more compact.
Same 18MP sensor, for all practical purposes, in original 7D, 60D and SL1. 70D and 7DII use the same 20MP sensor. The newest 24MP APS-C sensor is found only in the T6i/T6s, so far.
I wouldn't be as confident using T6s or SL1 for sports/action shooting. 6D also isn't all that great for sports/action. They all can do it, of course, but are likely to miss focus more often and you might notice slightly longer shutter lag at times.
All of these 18MP or larger cameras will give you both higher usable ISO and a lot more "croppability" or "enlargeability", compared to 10MP 40D. The APS-C cameras will give roughly 1 stop higher usable ISO... 7DII and possibly T6i/T6s might give a wee bit more. The FF 6D should give more like 2 or 3 stops higher usable ISO.
The 7d mkii is an excellent all around camera, it does everything pretty well. A great choice to back up your 5d mkiii. Another plus is is its similarities between the 2. You'll never regret the added option to shoot sports and BIF.
For the prize I'd get it if I was you. I have both cameras and I paid 1799 when it first came out and don't regret it at all

I have this camera and like it a lot, but question whether it's the best choice for street photography. Small and unobtrusive works better on the street. The 7D MII body weighs two pounds, and is the largest DSLR I've owned to date.
you can use a longer lens to become less "obtrusive". the 7D II is not much bigger than the 5DIII
I just checked the B & H website and their price for the 7D MKII is still $1399.
PMMPhotography, where did you see it for $1040?
Can't see doing street photography without an articulating screen. Just saying.
Ya the originators of Street Photography used articulating screens?
Just saying! NOT!

I have both a 5DIII and a 7 D II. And I find myself using the 7D over the 5D. I upgraded my 7D to the 7DII for higher ISO use and love it better than high ISO on my 5DIII.
Thanks for the feedback
Most appreciated
