Let me preface this by telling you that I am 77 years old and have been involved with photography since I was about twelve years old. That's a long time to develop opinions and I have certainly developed enough of my own. Most of my flower and insect shots are centered intentionally. It has been my experience that "rules" do not exist in photography..."guidelines" do. As for lighting, our best source is from nature and natural light is totally different at different times of day and in different weather conditions. Likewise, many, many wonderful pictures are shot using various sources of artificial light. Proper light and composition is what pleases the photographer unless your intent is to market them. Many of the photos that I share with you will violate some principles of photography but they represent what I liked at the time!
It is a pleasure to be with you...

ALL of these are very beautiful, great clarity, and I enjoyed seeing them!
Beautiful shots everyone!
I like this quirky one I shot on the spur of the moment and then removed a lot of the color in Photoshop.
Wow, flowers are everybody's favorite subject. They never complain, always smile, and don't have a "good" side. These are all outstanding pictures, whether you're following the rules or throwing caution to the wind. Here are a few of mine from a Mother's Day bouquet.
Bob welcome to our site. Thank you for sharing your beautiful photos. Rules work at times and at other times they don't it is a personal preference. #3 would be my pick, love the soft pastel shades of the rose.

Thank you for the compliments...Most of these are right out of the camera....I have the Canon SX120IS...which is a point and shoot.
Well...I guess I will jump in with a few of mine...I too love the flowers and usually like them centered, up close and personal...! All taken with Sony Cybershot DSC H-2...Auto Focus setting, hand held...no sharpening used... Linda
