Let me preface this by telling you that I am 77 years old and have been involved with photography since I was about twelve years old. That's a long time to develop opinions and I have certainly developed enough of my own. Most of my flower and insect shots are centered intentionally. It has been my experience that "rules" do not exist in photography..."guidelines" do. As for lighting, our best source is from nature and natural light is totally different at different times of day and in different weather conditions. Likewise, many, many wonderful pictures are shot using various sources of artificial light. Proper light and composition is what pleases the photographer unless your intent is to market them. Many of the photos that I share with you will violate some principles of photography but they represent what I liked at the time!

It is a pleasure to be with you...

Well the Lizard was at the right place at the right time and my camera is always ready. The other orchid, I grow them and it was after a rainy day, the best time for taking pictures of flowers..thanks.

Bob... I loved your preface. I also don't follow the 'rule' of thirds. I really like the term guideline. I think the 'thirds' concept works great for landscapes but not for everything.

Outstanding images, I particularly liked #3.

my mother used to grow orchids in a small greenhouse made from french windows when a porch was remodeled. We lived 50 miles north of Chicago at the time... so cool to see tropical orchids with it snowing outside. TY for posting

Bob-71 I especially like the roses, can't decide if there is one I like more than the other, and daisies are my favorite flower. ty for starting this thread....

All very nice shots! Makes me want to grow more flowers. And Bob, I center my flower pics as well and agree with your guidelines approach.
