It's soooo frustrating to have to go to settings each time. And most times it indicates that my modem IS connected. Sometimes disconnecting and re-connecting does the trick. Other times I have to be more creative. Grrrrrrr. Anyone have the answer?

Problems like this are usually driver-related. Make sure you have the latest, and the drivers are W10 approved.

I doubt that's the answer since my laptop is less than 3 months old and came with Win 10 installed. But thanks.
It's a known issue with windows 10. It has to do with the Internet adapter. It requires reconnecting your Internet connection often. It's a glitch that impacts a number of windows 10 users including myself. To my knowledge, Microsoft has not fixed this issue. If you run a troubleshooting check on the Wi-Fi connection, you'll find that your computer will have to reset the network adapter. That quickly fixes the problem but it is really an annoyance. I have discovered that the more programs and complicated your computer set up is, the harder it is to upgrade to windows 10 without having issues. Windows 10 still has a lot of bugs. Yes, there are many who have installed windows 10 without issues but there are just as many who are frustrated with all the problems. IMHO

Unfortunately it didn't work for long, back to the same issue as before.

Ok.
I suggest you change the cable first.
If this is not the issue:
- Download new drivers from the manufacturer site
- Disable the Ethernet adapter inside windows
- Reboot
- Uninstall all drivers (the Ethernet adapter should still be disabled)
- Reboot
- When prompted for new hardware found, point to the location where you saved the drivers
- Reboot
- Test
Note all the reboots are not really necessary but I have long learned that a cold boot between change does help when dealing with weird problems.
If nothing works you have a hardware problem (defective adapter) BUT before drawing that conclusion ask customer support from you adapter maker (or motherboard manufacturer). They maybe aware of the problem and have a solution.
If not ask onto MS forums.
Solution to a failed adapter? remove it (or disable it if integrated) and install a new one. If on a laptop, purchase a USB Ethernet adapter.

Right.
Well,
Racmanaz, then skip everything I typed above and stick to purchasing a USB Ethernet, windows 10 certified, after disabling the current adapter.

Not sure we have the same issue, I have mine connected directly to my wifi access point via ethernet cable. It will disconnect 4-5 times a night, I would disconnect the ethernet from my laptop and lick the end of the ethernet and reconnect and it works...for a short time. Still have not discovered the cause, hope someone on here will give us some resolve.
Its understandable. Your Ethernet just likes to be licked!
:-P

I've had a number of problems with the internet either timing out, error messages or not responding with Windows 10. I was using Mozilla as the browser. Finally a computer tech suggested changing browsers and I went to Google. Now there are no more problems like that.

I replace the ethernet cable a couple days ago due to this issue but it did not resolve it. And yeah I'm kind of sick of licking it lol

It has nothing to do with Win 10. It does have to do with the way you have configured the WiFi setup. You should be able to click on a box to automatically reconnect. Lots of info on the Internet. Try Google.
Of the six computers on which I have installed Win 10, I have had only one problem and that was with an Acer laptop that Acer has orphaned and doesn't intend to update for compatibility. (Of course they also lost a customer.)
I had one keep dropping out (wireless). Turned out to be the router went south. Hope its your cable.
Never use saliva by the way, it is very caustic.
