In fact, I just purchased a $65 camera grip... I have used a lot of after market products. You do have to be careful but buying from a reputable supplier is best. they don't want to sell junk as much as you don't want to buy it. I never buy Canon batteries... Yes, it is a knock-off, but some do work just fine. Zeikos BG-E7 Battery Grip for Canon EOS 7D Digital SLR Cameras [ZE-CBG7D]
1 $65.95

I've bought after market grips for my Canons, both D's and Rebels for years without any problems, but then again they're not heavily used. The huge price difference sure makes it worth while.

just purchased a Vello battery grip for my 40D for $64.95 @bh also has video, fit and finish quality is very good and Highly recomended by me for a non-canon product, also purchased the vello shutter boss for $52.50 my only complaint is there is no off switch so I just remove the batteries after I done BH also has video on this product.

I have the Opteka for the Canon 60D. Looks, feels and has the same functions as the OEM. Love it. $49.95 from Opteka.

MB-D12 for D-800...$449.95, Tell me there is that much more technological improvement to justify that gouge.

I have the Vello grip for my 50D and 5D MK II from BH & can't say enough good stuff about them. My price was ~$65.00 each and I too use the "knock-off" batteries (Pearstone). The extra controls (shutter & function buttons) make vertical shots easier. They have a separate power switch but I've never used it. I just turn on the power on the back of the camera body & the grip batteries kick in.

I'm not that concerned with heavy lenses since the ones that might actually cause a problem usually have a tripod mount one the lens body.

i bought canon grips for my 7d and 5d. for my old t1i, i bought an opteka grip for around $50...it works as well as the canon grips do.

when i bought the canon grips for the 7d and 5d...was about $500. that's way tooooooo much for this accessory.

if you buy off brand...buy from a reputable source like bhphoto or adorama......they have great reputations.

battery grips are great....i can use 2 batteries for long shoots and the vertical portrait shooting is comfortable and awesome.

and 1 more point...the grip gives me a 2nd buckle for security on my optech straps.

Hello Cony25

I bought one of the Canon brands from Calumet in Orange Co. California for a 7D Canon Camera for $169.00 and change and it works very well for me. The prices at Calumet were fair compaired to other stores check them out. http://www.calumetphoto.com/?a=CA01&t=CA01

I bought a generic battery grip for my Canon. Figured at $50 if it didn't work I wasn't out much and if it did then good deal. I have no complaints with it!

Grip ? What kind of grip ? There are a number of grips, all different... $269... Better be gold plated for that price... Show us the type of grip you are thinking of...

I have have bought three different kinds of battery grips for my three SLR's, only one of them a Canon. Although I find enormous differences between Canon and third party products in other areas, I have never had a problem with either of the third party lenses, ergo, I overpaid for the Canon.

I second Grumps'09 ~ I just bought a refirb 7D Like new! And I also bought the battery grip for it, all from ADORAMA.
They offer a 30 Day return policy. Good build and it works just fine. Flashpoint is ADORAMA's Clone brand. Batteries are Canon Batteries.

Using the above link and sorting for Electronics I was able to sort by Most Popular. It looks like the Zeikos grips average 4.5 Stars from 600+ reviews and run roughly $70 depending on your camera.

I also saw some with LCD screens, etc. One from Neewer for $55, but has no reviews and one from Polaroid that integrates a Remote Shutter Release for $90 with 4 Stars.

Google Shopper even shows one for $30 including tax and shipping... Whatever you buy, please post the outcome.

I have bought 2 Zeikos over the years and have never had a problem with either. For the price they may be the best choice out there.

My ex girlfriend got one for her Canon 60D and now she can't get the batteries out of it. They are stuck because the latch broke off. This probably wouldn't happen with OEM products. Well worth the money to get the real McCoy. I know, you'll hear a lot of people that have had success with 3rd party products. In the end, it's up to you and your piece of mind. I bought some off brand batteries, and 2 out of 4 only lasted a few charges and now they won't even take a charge. I learned my lesson and it's OEM all the way now.
