I saw a canon camera grip for 269.00, then I saw a camera grip with no name for 69.00, how good are the unknown brands? Is it worth buying them, anybody has any experience with any of them? Thank you..

Grip ? What kind of grip ? There are a number of grips, all different... $269... Better be gold plated for that price... Show us the type of grip you are thinking of...

Are you referring to the ones that hold 2 batteries and attach to the botton of the camera? If so, I have used ones by MeiKe and they are pretty good quality- not the quality of Canon but very usable.

The only concern I have is the tripod mounting socket on the bottom. I wouldn't trust it while using a really heavy lens. I think that it could come apart from the bottom of the grip. This may just be my paranoia.

The grip is a great convenience having the two batteries and it make holding the camera for portrait oriented shots much easier.

Aftermarket grips are a real crapshoot. Some work, some are garbage. No way to tell as there are no true brand names and no warranties. One grip might sell with 10 different brand names on it. Companies but these Chinese knock-offs and puit a label on them and sell them for whatever the market will bear. Even if it says Canon, it might not be, counterfeiting is wildly rampant in the camera industry. Buy from reputable sources only!

Using the above link and sorting for Electronics I was able to sort by Most Popular. It looks like the Zeikos grips average 4.5 Stars from 600+ reviews and run roughly $70 depending on your camera.

I also saw some with LCD screens, etc. One from Neewer for $55, but has no reviews and one from Polaroid that integrates a Remote Shutter Release for $90 with 4 Stars.

Google Shopper even shows one for $30 including tax and shipping... Whatever you buy, please post the outcome.

I have bought and used a VIVITAR ( 2 batteries) grip for my 7D and it has worked flawlessly so far ( about 10,000 pics)

It has endured 100F heat with high humidity, 5F snow days and everything in between including rain.

I bought a Zeikos for $69(it had a 4 star review) and after a year of use, out of nowhere it began to discharge the batteries quickly as well as shooting the camera continuosly at will as if possesed by the devil itself. Got rid of it, bought a Canon and never looked back. Comparing both the Zeiss and the Canon is as if comparing a Chevy VEGA with a Ferrari. Rest assured I will not buy after market equipment again. Learned my lesson well.

By the way, if in doubt, read MT Shooter's advice again.

I have a Vivatar - VIV-PG-700 on my D300s. Love it except for one minnor flaw. It will read low batt when it's not low. If I pull the tray out and push it right back in no problem. And it only happens once a month or so. $50.00 or so at B&H.Extra grip area, batt, shutter , a/f etc, etc.

... but there are bargains to be had. Lots of people have Youngou(SP?) flashes, and I have Cowboy Studio flash equipment. I got some 99 cent "Nikon" lens caps from Hong Kong, rather than paying $6.00 for the real thing. Just do some research before you buy, and ask opinions here.

There is a cheap batterypack/grip for the D7000 that has an obvious defect: the plastic lock for the battery case breaks off right away. Owners say they can still open the battery compartment with their fingers, and the grip works fine. So, you can pay $60 or $300. Life is full of compromises, but basically, you want something that will work.

I bought this one on eBay for $38 including 2 batteries, AA battery adapter and postage! I've only had it a week, charged the batteries and have shot about 500 pics so far all good... http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/180730566637?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1497.l2649

I have used a Flashpoint grip from Adorama on my Canon 50Dfor many years without any problems at all. Cost was under $70.00 and the comparable grip from Canon was over $250.00. I'd go for the less expensive from a good retailer like Adorama or B&H
