I switched from a large bag with 2 Nikon bodies and 4 lenses to an a6000 with 16-70 and 55-210. They fit in a very small carry bag and I am very happy with the results and experience. There is a learning curve to fully appreciate the Sony though. I don't think you will be sorry.

You just helped me make up my mind.

Thanks
Rich

Tired of the weight and looking for new technology.

Don't you think this says it all?
I recall seeing a video somewhere with a pro giving his reasons for switching from Nikon to the A6000. It was about 20 minutes long.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jUBSujbKfEo is one, not the one I'm thinking about though.

Glad I could help. Once you get the camera you might want to get the Gary Friedman manual for it. It is really good. I think Gary Fong (?) also did a video of why he switched. Seems like it was sponsored by B&H.

If you're really serious about results and want to put the equipment question to rest you can purchase Leica and concentrate on taking great photographs.
Surprisingly, I don't see Leica mentioned here much, if at all, but I see heaps of money spent on Canon and Nikon.

Technically, Leica has not made a camera since the late 1970's, when they sold their camera business.

Talk about off-topic. What has the identity of the person who made and assembled the camera got to do with the price of fish? Get a grip!

Yes, I did. I replied that the Leica M9 was light. Weight seemed to be the major factor. QED

It was also about the trade he was considering, not spending a bunch money.

easy with those lighter camera's,,, i know my nikons are a lot lighter than the canons my gf shoots with,,, but with that said,,, we were looking for new equipment,, i a new camera and she a new zooms lens,,, we were talked into trying the new sony that had an outragous zoom ,, taking it home only to find that because it was so light,, it was also very hard to hold still even with out using the zoom on it,,, shaky and blurring pics,,,, Th i understand the weight,, with my camera and a 150 to 500 lens,, it can get heavy as well... just saying about the lighter camera.s they may be easier to carry but also may compromise the steadyness!!!

Several lenses for the a6000 have image stabilization. If you're willing to spend a little more you can get an A7mk2 with 5 axis ibis.

I must be sick. I'm 72 and I run around with tons of equipment on a daily basis. Health may have something to do with it but, it's not age. I do move a little slower but I eventually get where I'm going.

Crikey! This whole blog is an equipment fest. It's all about stuff and little about the art of photography. People even revel in posting about what gear they have before every post. Ansell Adams made great prints with a pinhole camera.
My dad and I made an enlarger out of hand-folded bellows, rack and pinion made on an old lathe in the shed, a discarded WWII lens full of air bubbles from a aircraft bomb-sight and all sliding to the ceiling in our laundry on three inch water pipe in order to get big enlargements of 6 x 6 cm negs. Now, that's photography.

Agree, it's largely become a "Gearhead" forum. Have to hunt for the photography bits.

I am 71 yrs. old, I have 10 lenses, I made two trips to Alaska in two years. I carried with me two camera bodies plus 4 lenses. I enjoyed both trips very much. I didn't miss any shots and collected over 1200 images each. i didn't feel they are heavy at all as soon as I was 100% on the mission for photography! I won't switch to any MLS because of weight!

I just turned 60 and broke my shoulder in 2 places 2 years ago with a 30% loss. All my gear is heavy and when I get a little weak I just do a little weight lifting.

Keep it up as much as you can, and be confident! I do exercise for 45 min. everyday to keep myself in shape!
