I like reenactment and some historic things. That might be why I could never find a good older looking camera strap.

To satisfy my likes I made my own camera straps from leather horse reins. Easy to make too. Just use a couple small holes and leather shoe laces to stitch any ends together when needed. (Maybe I should market them?)

(A modern camera and old looking straps. That works well for me.)

They are super strong and look better the older they get!

Optech! It is a "system" with quick connects that allows you to use the same strap on multiple cameras, etc. And since I switched to Lowepro "Slingshot" all my other bags have been cumbersome. The Slingshot is a backpack style bag that slides around to your stomach for access without having to take the bag off your body.

Peak Design has a quick connect system as well.

As for the strap, the only ones I'd use are UPStrap, not shown in the photos.

As for my camera bag, I've attached two photos of the one I've used for the last 5 years. The cost is under 50USD.

I suggest also looking at "pacsafe" products, http://www.pacsafe.com . They have pickpocket/slash resistant products, including camera straps and bags.

Those are both personal items that you'll have to decide on yourself. If you're like everyone else, you'll wind up with several different bags because one bag can't do everything. As far as straps, there's a lot to choose from. Look at them from a comfort and strength viewpoint and that should help you decide.

I'm going to Israel next June...it'll be my first time in Asia or the Middle East (depending on what website I'm looking at when I do a search). Because the tour company I'm going with has a one suitcase/one carry-on restriction, I'm leaving my DSLR at home and bought a used Panasonic FZ-200 for the trip (will save several pounds and lots of space). Have you been to Israel before? Post pics, please!

I have been to Israel and Eqypt. I made a scrapbook. It was before I was really into photography though. Great memories!

I think I have determined that you need multiple bags depending on the mission. As far as straps, there are many good choices depending on the style of shooting you get into. I like the quality of Peak Design straps and the ergonomics of Domke and Think Tank bags but there are many good choices.

I use the manufacturer's straps but highly recommend Domke bags. Been using them over 25 years now and never felt short changed.

My strap preference is OpTech - very comfortable and come in a wide selection of colors and sizes. For bags, I have used mostly Lowepro, but there are many great ones out there. Depends on size needed and style preferred. I do not bring multiple bodies and lenses when I travel, nor do I ever check ant camera equipment, so something more compact, always with excellent padding, is my preference.

I've been using OP Tech for over 30 yrs. length to time in business says lots about product quality. High quality and very affordable. Their sling allows one to use camera lugs for intended purpose and keep tripod socket free for QR plate.

Ok I'm gonna add my 2 cents. You have gotten many suggestions. All are good. The thing is there is no perfect bag. All bags are a compromise, so decide what gear you are going to take on the trip, how much do you want to carry around every day, how much can you take on the plane, and choose the bag accordingly.

As for the strap, if your going to carry the camera everyday then why do you need a new bag? And if your going to carry the camera in the bag then why do you deed a fancy strap?
