Hi..just got a Nikon D5500 w. 18-140mm and 55-300mm. xit elite flash..I am enjoying learning how to use this camera.I live in Woodstock NY and plan on traveling to Israel soon and want to know which lense(s) to bring....need bag and strap recommendation..thanks, Bill
Read the Israeli air carrier bag policy first. While this appears to be a joke these guys have their own set of criteria that are stringent and forcefully enforced.
I think I have determined that you need multiple bags depending on the mission. As far as straps, there are many good choices depending on the style of shooting you get into. I like the quality of Peak Design straps and the ergonomics of Domke and Think Tank bags but there are many good choices.
I use Peak Design Slide strap. (love) also temba has great bags.

My strap preference is OpTech - very comfortable and come in a wide selection of colors and sizes. For bags, I have used mostly Lowepro, but there are many great ones out there. Depends on size needed and style preferred. I do not bring multiple bodies and lenses when I travel, nor do I ever check ant camera equipment, so something more compact, always with excellent padding, is my preference.
Tamrac's are good but I am not sure they mace a strap.

I saw that picture posted and then saw "Woodstock," and it made sense. That picture looks very familiar.
I like OP/TECH straps.
http://optechusa.com/straps.htmlEnjoy your trip.
I have used both Op/Tech and Black Rapid straps and both are great. As far as a bag goes, I would do something light that won't wear you down. A Temba or a small Domke come to mind, but there are many out there that will fill your need. On lenses, an 18-200 may be the best all around for you to take. It gives you a lot of coverage!
Have a great trip!

El AL.
This is the only country that has a custom check before you leave. Plan on more than two hours in advance... Their requirements are stringent and having a ticket is not a certainty to board. If you have a stamp from some other middle east countries you will be prevented to fly to Israel by example.
Their baggage checking is also much more intrusive as is their requirement on form weight and size.
Knowing a person in country is a plus when visiting for obvious reasons but also security as some areas are really off limit regardless of who you are. Traveling in group or tour seems to be the best way, if the tour operator is good. Most are thought, they need the business.
thanks for the info. i am not traveling with el al, flying delta. going to a wedding for my son in laws brother. my son in law's entire family is there. my daughter and i are not flying with him.
any suggestions?
thanks!

Assuming a neck strap, I'd recommend an OPTec, as far as a bag I'd suggest a generic cary on bag with OpTec foam/neoprene scovers for the camera and extra lens, to the lenses you mention I'd probably add a 40mm or 50mm for low light situations. Bob.
Optech! It is a "system" with quick connects that allows you to use the same strap on multiple cameras, etc. And since I switched to Lowepro "Slingshot" all my other bags have been cumbersome. The Slingshot is a backpack style bag that slides around to your stomach for access without having to take the bag off your body.
