Guidance? Well I'm staying with W7 just because of issues like yours. I'd advise going back.
Yes, but you are very risk averse Jimmy. That is your personal choice, but you should also acknowledge that you are a very late adopter, and your advice to hang back is not necessarily the best for all others.
Many of these problems are very easily resolved. Not all, but the majority.
Remember, it is dangerous out on the streets, people get killed. It is far safer to stay at home and never go out, then you just have the risk of accidents at home to deal with!
I'm not trying to be mean, you are well entitled to your own perspective, but that is not the best approach for everybody.
Most of the problems people are experiencing with Windows 10 are user specific issues, or lack of knowledge. Then when things go wrong people start blaming Microsoft, the company is far from perfect, but has in fact done a really good job with this transition.
Many of the people on UHH wouldn't even consider trying to repair their own cameras, they pay the local shop or send it back to Canon, Nikon, Sony or whatever and pay the price. Yet those very same people seem to think that they can upgrade/modify/ or repair their computers which many know very little about, and yet are not willing to pay somebody else to do that for them. Then it goes wrong, and they start complaining that the software must be bad!
I do understand your reticence with Magic Lantern, it made me nervous, although now I have been using it without any problems for over two years on the exact same camera model that you have.
ML is however, an unsupported hack. Windows 10 is a fully supported product that Microsoft needs to be successful, they are very motivated to make it work well, and so far it is doing so surprisingly well if people are prepared to take a little bit of effort.
Take care....
