Great lens. Use mine most of the time. The new one will have VR which at times I wish I had, but have done ok. You won't go wrong with one. It's not a light lens, but I've gotten used to it.

I've had mine for a year now and it stays on my D610 90% of the time. It is an amazing lens an I wouldn't trade it for anything.

A great lens and my go-to lens with my D750, but it is not cheap nor is it real light. Still, you can't go wrong with it on any Nikon FF.

I have been considering this lens for my d750. I get mixed but overall very positive reviews of this lens. Before I decide I would be very grateful to have the Hoggs provide their usual astute opinions. Thanks.

The new model has VR

I have the Trinity and big primes, this is by far my favorite. The 24 mm is ideal for wide angle and then all the way to 70 mm for everything else. Incredibly sharp. It will never disappoint. Wait for the new version but if you want to save some bucks the old one is a fantastic lens for another 100 years.

I have owned this lens since it was released and it is one of my most used and most useful lenses when not shooting action sports. If I go out with only one lens, this is usually my choice. Personally, I don't see the need for VR at this range so I won't be rushing to replace it with the newest version, but I will have a look when it becomes available (shortly as I understand it). Unless you need this now, you should begin to see some discounts if you want a new one, or some great prices if you want pre-owned. If I do get the new one, I will, most likely, offer mine here first! I suspect others will do the same. Best of luck.

It is evidently an excellent lens but quite pricey. I'm considering the 24-85 instead. It rates almost as good and is much less expensive. It is F4. I have little use for f2.8 with today's high ISO capability.

Lighter, too, I think.

I have the 24-70 lens and have used it to shoot a wedding and "Santa with Kids" portraits on a D-610 and used it for general photography on my D-750. Great lens, sharp images. You can't go wrong by getting it.

With all the negative comments, are you still considering the 24-70 2.8?

The first time I used a 24-70 (on a D700) it blew my mind.

Then I used it on a D3... The skin tone and texture
produced... I just dont have words for it... If ever
a two dimensional image could be kissed... see the crop below.

Get it, you will love it.

On a D750 it should be utterly sensational.

24-70 @ 70mm, ISO 800, 60th sec, f4 on a D3 hand held
24-70 @ 70mm, ISO 800, 60th sec, f4 on a D3 hand h...

No lens is better than the operator.
Just my humble opinion.

It is one of my favorite lenses in my bag and use it on my D800. The other two, 14 - 24 and 70 - 200, 2.8 lenses are great too. Can't beat the holy trinity.

All the above comments are spot on, and I can only add my enthusiastic approbation as well. I have used the 24 X 70 mm (with my D3, D4, D300s, and recently with my D810) for years in myriad settings world wide with absolute success. I am a candidate for the second generation of this lens currently being offered by Nikon.
