I have been considering this lens for my d750. I get mixed but overall very positive reviews of this lens. Before I decide I would be very grateful to have the Hoggs provide their usual astute opinions. Thanks.
It's one of the "trinity". You can't go wrong.
It stays on my D810 99% of the time!
I think that it is one of my best investments in glass.

Best investment I have made in a lens. I love it, it is on my d810 most of the time. It's a heavy lens, but I have had no problems getting in-focus pix, and I have spaghetti arms.
My favorite lens & is kept on my D800e.
Nikon recently announced a new version of that lens. The new lens will include VR and an electromagnetic aperture. Having VR is great. Maybe wait a little until it comes out and check it out.
I have the older non VR Nikon 24-70 and it is a beauty and is often my lens of choice. Never saw the need for VR on such a short lens so I would go for a good used one and there are probably some available at a good price since the VR "upgrade" came out. ;)

You should ask yourself is it a focal length range that is useful to me.
Its a good lens, probable not as good as the out coming E version, but to be useful it has to be a lens you will use.

I have not seen a negative comment about the 24-70 from anyone who has experience with it. So, does it fit your needs, and is it worth the expense for you? That is the real question.

It is my go to lens when doing portraits, weddings or anything important that requires the best

Mixed, who would ever say anything bad about this lens. Have it, it, besides the 70-200 is always on the camera.
Like others have said, it's one of the Trinity and a sharp lens. You don't need VR on this short of a lens, in my opinion, so the price should be coming down with the newest version coming out soon. This lens sells between $1250 and $1400. I have the older version, the 28-70 f2.8 and it is just as sharp and at an even better price out there. Usually around $900-1K
Both are great lenses! Good luck and you won't be disappointed.
Just add my endorsement to the above - if I could only keep one of my lenses this would be it.
