KA-THUMP in this story is a Juvenile Ruby Throat-ed Humming bird that
was chased into our sun room window. It knocked itself out cold but when the wife went and picked it up it moved. We placed it on a table in the shade until it came to. I thought how cool would it be to get some close ups of this little bugger before it fly's away. While I moved it around and got it awake the wife got my 7DMKII and my 24-105L lens out of my truck for me. I placed it on my hand a took and couple of shots and then had the Kind Lady to hold it for several shots. It never seemed to be frightened of us and let us place it and move around in the light with it. When it had fully recovered it seemed to look sad as in the last picture and then flew up into the tree. We got to see it join the others at the feeder. This was a very exciting photo op for us and I hope you enjoy the pictures. First photo is a feeding area that I sat up to attract my front yard friends. mdh

What a wonderful story, Dennis and what an awesome experience for you and your wife!!
Super shots from a very grateful garden jewel!!!

Thank you and we were blessed in the fact that it let us do that many
shots before it flew off. Once it revived and started fluttering its wings we
thought each shutter click would be the last. Dennis

Absolutely wonderful set... #7 is a standout to me!

Thanks and it is one I really like also. We had the dark shade under
the tree and the wife was able to hold it at the edge and capture the
sunlight on it. Dennis

Nice series and so glad the it survived, Dennis; unfortunately while, deadheading some flowers this morning we found a young Prothonotary Warbler dead in the flowers. It had apparently crashed into the window and dropped into the flowers--such a shame and it was so beautiful!

Thanks and we have that to happen to other birds also. We also have a
cocker spaniel that goes after them when they fly into it. Most of the time
but not always he will bring them to us unharmed. Dennis

Thank you because there wasn't a lot of time to really try all the settings
that I would liked to have tried. ISO was difficult because of the bright sun
when we moved from under the shade. I am proud that the camera combo
was very sharp on detail for me. I was running 1/5000th on the shutter
speed so to catch the wing detail when it moved. Dennis

Thank you and that was what we really got from this opportunity. It would
let her move it around on her fingers and hand and never gave the impression that it was scared of us. I had the camera up real close and
was afraid that the clicking of the high shutter speed would scare it. That
wasn't the case and when it got ready to leave it just flew off her finger
and up in the shade tree there with us. I couldn't get a shot of it in the
tree because of ISO change but then it flew back to the feeder with all
the others. Dennis

What a wonderful story and how lucky you were that it just sat there on your hand for you. That must have been a wonderful feeling. Love the images too, all nice and sharp and clear.

Thank you so much and I have to hand it to Canon for the 7DMKII and
the 24-105L Lens. They made a great combo for landscape and close up
photography also. Dennis

Wonderful sequence of pics. Tells a story. See very few pictures of hummers without their wings beating. You're very lucky to have had the opportunity to take these great pics. :)

This was a rare opportunity and I am glad it had a happy ending. The series offered a golden opportunity to get close and personal.
