Beautiful work of art...but if the cops see it you'll be in the papers as the owner of an illegal assault weapon! Lol!! On a serious note, I wish it were mine!

Dewey, I've long wondered if these take down rifles are as accurate as the conventional "one piece" design. Have any thoughts on this?

Very nice rifle, had a non break down with a jeweled bolt and the gold trigger. It went to a collection, it was to nice to drag around in the field.

Nice! Yours looks to be in better condition than mine. I inherited it from my uncle. It was made in one of the last 2 years of manufacture. I like the action and the rounds-left-in-magazine feature. Thanks for sharing.

(P.S. Never take the magazine apart. You'll have big problems finding someone who can reassemble it.)

Several years ago, my brother-in-law gave me this old Savage M99 take-down rifle in .300 Savage caliber. His father bought the rifle, brand new, in 1937! It has been on two actual hunting trips. The rest of the time, it resided in his closet!

Occasionally, I take it out and shoot it just to be sure it's "healthy." It shoots like gang busters!

These old take-down models are fairly rare, especially one that's this clean.

I thought some of you gun enthusiasts might enjoy taking a look at it.
Several years ago, my brother-in-law gave me this ... (show quote)

My father was an accomplished gunsmith and rifleman. Many times I saw him take a rifle out of the cabinet, shoulder it, then wipe it down with a Rigg impregnated shammi, a wry smile on his face and return it to its place. We had firearms in the house all the time. I used to walk two miles to the base of the mountain with a .22 Winchester slinged on my shoulder to go hunting. We didnt have all this mass shooting, and hysteria in the 1960s. Its about poor parenting, and a morally corrupt nation.

Well George, I can't speak for all of the take-down models, but mine will put three rounds inside a 1 1/2" circle at 100 yds. as long as I do MY part!

Some of them had quarter turn, interrupted thread attachment points, but if you'll notice.... mine has FULL THREADS the entire length of the barrel portion that fits into the receiver. It makes for a much stronger attachment. I once had a similar rifle in .250-3000 that had the interrupted threads and it developed head space problems.

It's certainly beautiful, and nicely photographed, but can you tell an ignorant Brit what happens if you shoot it and it turns out it wasn't healthy?

My comment about it being "healthy," was just a way of indicating whether it still functioned properly or not. It's made like a Swiss watch and unless is had been severely mistreated, there would never be a reason for it NOT to be "healthy." As you can tell by the photographs, it has been well cared for.

I think all guns in good condition should be shot occasionally, just for S&Gs if for no other reason.

Sadly, I've got it up for sale. There are some extenuating circumstances that make it so. Mainly, no one to pass it down to. I'm almost 70 years old and within 24 hours of my passing, it.... along with most of my other prized firearms would end up in the nearest pawn shop! That WILL NOT HAPPEN on MY watch! I'd rather see it go to someone who appreciates it for what it is. Know what I mean? Funny how a guy begins to think of things like that when he begins to get long in the tooth, eh?
