I just realized how much trouble social media has caused in my life. Too much time wasted on likes and status updates.

I used it the keep track of family that I haven't seen in years. But sometimes people you haven't seen in years are better left in your past. Even family.

I did a quick search on deleting a Facebook profile--not a simple deactivation that is reversible. With only a moment of hesitation, I cut the cord.
They gave me 14 days to change my mind and I have to admit that it will be hard not to log in. I've already deleted the app from my smartphone.

Good for you!

Have never gotten on the social media bandwagon and never plan to. Can't believe how much personal information my adult kids post on there.

If I need to communicate with someone I just open the old flip phone, call them and actually talk to them. Have never sent a text message either. And even that old phone doesn't get used as much as before since I dumped the old Dodge POS that would leave me stranded on the expressway more times than I care to recall. I had AAA on speed dial.

"They gave me 14 days to change my mind..."

Stay strong, brother!

The 14 days is BS. I deleted my account, the app on both an iPhone and iPad, and off my computer. Two years later I reinstalled the app on my iPhone, logged in and all the information was still there, just as I had left it!??

Really?

Well it's a non-issue for me as I manually unfriended everyone before I "deleted" my account.
Kind of a crappy move, but I wanted to make sure I couldn't go back.

All this social media stuff is way to creepy for me. I'm fast approaching my 80th year, I don't have time for so much non-information. The UHH is enough info for me.

Funny thing is the kids are all getting out of facebook. Their short attention spans require something a little less meaningful.

It served it's purpose for awhile.

I saw a great joke with the theme "what if you conversed with your friends in person like you do on FB?". You call your friend to tell them "I'm having breakfast now, omelets and fruit".

Food for thought.

I work in a middle school...none of the kids are on fb. This year its "instagram", "kik", or "askfm", or whatever else they can find that their parents aren't into. They will always be one step "ahead". Remember spending hours outside playing football? Cards under the tree? Climbing the trees in the woods? Hiding in the cornfield and scaring my brothers? Now those were fun days...just saying'.
