The D610 is a fantastic camera with about 24mp. The D810 is also a great camera but it is larger and heavier than the 610 and has about 35mp and a much steeper price. I upgraded to the D610 from a D3100 and I relish the move.

I'd get the D610 and use the savings on a nice SB700 Speedlight and maybe some new Glass. By the way the 24-85mm that comes with the D610 is a really crisp lens too. It is my everyday lens.

I have the d700 and have recently upgraded to the the d810. It out performs my wifes d800 in low light. All three are great camera. I agree with you regarding the 24-85 vr. I use it when outside and the light is decent. Inside it doesn't keep up with the 28-70 or the 24-70. I've thought of picking up the d7100 for its light weight and the fact we still have a couple of dx lenses left from when we first got started. Its hard to let go of a good 18-200 vr. However how many camera can two people shot at one time.

I personally love my D5300 and Nikon 18-300 lens. I am healthy and getting up there in age. 70. I have no desire to purchase a full frame camera because I do not want to lug around the extra weight. I have read many reviews that if one is not a candidate for a Pulitzer, one would have no use for many of the extra functions available with a FF. I understand though that there are those that love having all the bells and whistle.

I am presently shooting a Nikon D 5200 with a Nikon 18-300 primarily. I also have a Sigma 150-500 with Multiplier and for really close, special work a Sigma 30 MM 1.4. I have taken some really good pic's with each of these but always wonder how would those pics look if I had a D 800 or D 810. I am a rank amateur, no that is not true, I have been an Amateur for a lot of years but am filling my bucket list through travel with a camera. Help me guys should I go big and go to the 800 or 810.

A long story...gave a daughter our old D300 that hubby used. He got my D800 and I picked up D610. The 610 was fine, except I really liked where the controls were on the 800. Well, wasn't going to go get another camera. But then the old D300 died and daughter #3 is an excellent photographer picking up jobs here and there. So she got the new 610 and I bought an 810. The 810 is the best camera I've had since the old D2H. So...I'd recommend the 810 over the 800 since we have both. I happened to pick up a used 810 at B&H last year and have not been disappointed!

Hi ROG,

I recently upgraded from a D7000 to a D750 and have been very pleased. The button setup on both are similar so they back each other up just fine. If you go FF be sure to keep you present camera as a back up. Also, one of the selling points for the D750 for me was the "flip screen" on the back. I sure helps for taking low angle shots. Take care & ...

I'd seriously consider the 750 or the 610. I travel with a 600 and it's kit lens (which is excellent) and I really wouldn't want to travel with anything bigger or heavier.

I recently bought a new D750 and a used D610 as a (similar knobology) backup. So, my rolly-eyed wife says I need to shed some cameras. I have a low click D800 I'd like to sell (see photos). I'll likely sell the D700 (love of my life) and D7000 too.

Anyway, if you are interested in the D800, let me know via private message and I'll email you higher resolution photos and a full description.

I moved up from the D5300 which is a great camera to the Nikon D750 FX-Format Digital SLR Camera with AF-S NIKKOR 24-120mm f/4G ED VR Lens there is still a $900 rebate on this package. It is heaver but I'm really glad with my choice. I like the D750 for the speed and does very well in low light. Good Luck RogerG

Personally I like a small light DSLR so I have no interest in FF, but if you want one and you can afford it get one. I do suggest handling it before you buy it. You may find the added weight a burden especially while traveling.

What kind of travel are you doing? If your interest is in landscapes, the full frame will make wider angle images. It would probably work better in cities because of the wider angle images, especially on crowded village streets. If most of the things you photograph are farther away the crop sensor is an advantage. It is nice if you can have both.

Buy according to your needs. Think about what you will be shooting and which body most appropriately meets those needs. Bigger is not always better, but usually it is more expensive. Would a less expensive body meet your needs, and save you some money for good glass? You decide. I was contemplating the same scenario about 9 months ago, and one of our well respected contributors to this site influenced my decision to go with a D610 over a more expensive full frame, which was more than I needed. At the end of the day, this body does everything I need it to do, and I have been able to get some better glass with money saved. Good luck with your decision.

You can rent an FX camera and lens and try it for yourself. Your personal experience will be better than all the opinions in the world.

ROG, It's absolutely fine for you to ask all the questions you like that way you get the answers to Your question and that's why they put the "Create New Topic" button on each Forum Topic.
Now, I moved from the D5300 to the D800E and never looked back.
All I can say is WOW. It's like I have a whole bag full of new Lenses.
Craig
PS: The D750 has a Recall on right now.
