I think the original little guy's name was Speedee. :-)

Hahahaha yourself, the Alka Seltzer mascot was Speed

You've got it right, Phil!
Thank you for going to all the trouble to post supporting evidence, too!
I saw the difference between the spellings but when saying it aloud, remembered that "Speedy" was the name of the alka seltzer dude.
Bob's Big Boy's mascot is who this reminded me of, personally... but that's an entirely different mascot and company!
No WONDER they ditched this lil' dude in favor of a clown! lol
Thanks again :)

Glad you enjoyed it!
I've never seen anything like it before and was really tickled. It would be cool to see more like it popping up now!

The original was Speedee and in 1967 they changed him for Ronald McDonald.
did you enjoy your balloons or did you give them to the grandkids

I think this retro-McDonald's is TOO cool!
This one is in Ocean City Maryland and I nearly missed it looking for historical buildings on a recent photo trip there!
Naturally, I had to get many shots and play with some of them for effect, too.

Yes Actually I have seen one like that. There is one in Tulsa Oklahoma that looks very similar to it. Or at least it still looked the same the last time I was in that part of Tulsa a few months ago. I hope they leave it that way. And of course there is the one over the turnpike that S-man showed. I used to love driving under that thing when we would go visit my grandma, it was about the coolest thing in the world when I was little.

T... Till I get into town, here's a picture of the first one, I believe it was 1948, by the Mc Donald Brothers, in San Bernardino, Ca. This one is from my personal collection.

1st. Mickey D's
It was "MARC'S BIGBOY" here in the midwest. But McDonald
was separate fast food..

Nothing similar near us, I have not seen one like that in at least 25 years.
Sure brings back memories too. There was more then one time when I was in HS that I told my parents I was going to McD and instead loaded all my friends in the car and we headed down to the Jersey shore.

Hi tilde 531: Yes his name was "Speedy" I had a customer of mine that collected MCDonalds memoribilia. She was estatic when she found a Speedy figurine and had to show it to me and tell me all about it. We do have one of the retro Micky Dee's here in Yakima WA.
