Nikon D750 Service Recall

I just got notified that if you have a Nikon D750 with a certain serial number, you may have to have it serviced for free for a shutter problem that produces shadows in some pics. Cameras manufactured in Oct/Nov 2014 are part of the recall. Go to nikonusa.com or the Nikon Rumors site for info.
This is the second time I have had my D750 recalled. It's doing more traveling than I am. :)

Hummm....and I'm about to pull the trigger on buying one. Maybe I should hold off a bit.

Just goes to show you that, like buying the newest model car, you have to wait till all the bugs are gone. Sadly, I thought Nikon's reputation was better than that.

I have one of the early Nikon D750's. I checked and it is not one of the ones with the Shutter issue. But my D750 is one of one with the initial light flare issue.
I just sent my D750 back, per the instructions on the NikonUSA.com website. And now I await its return. I hope it is not too long, I miss my D750. (Thankfully my backup camera is a D7100, this is also a great camera).
So my point (and there really is a point to this post) is that while Nikon is not perfect, ever since the D600 problem, they have learned to be honest about issues and just fix them for free.
So will I continue to be a Nikon shooter. Yes. I have too much Nikon gear already, and I know that Nikon will fix any problems which are their fault. I still feel good about my Nikon decisions.

I agree. I've been with Nikon for many years and have a lot of equipment. I hope this is the end of problems with the stuff I have. I have other cameras to cover me until they fix the D750. They returned the 750 with the earlier problem of flare within one week which was really good.

I am in total agreement with your statement. I have seen several bodies made in Thailand with problems denoting a lack of quality control. I have not heard anything about lenses made there.
Quality control is excellent when the body is made in Japan.

I am thankful for the information that I get from the Ugly Hedgehog members. When I read about the recall I checked my serial # and found out that my camera is affected for the shadow problem and my serial # also hits as affected by the flaring problem. I have printed the packing slip and label. Will they automatically know to check for both problems and about how long will my camera be gone? Thanks for any replies.

Checked mine and fortunately is not affected. Good thing because I'm a week away from a photo journey through Montana, Wyoming and parts of Colorado, lucky me!

My D750 is supposedly affected by both issues. I can reproduce the flare cutoff issue only with my rarely used 50mm f1.8 lens and I don't like shooting into flare. In over 12,000 shutter releases I have seen no trace of the shadowing problem. I didn't send in my camera for the first issue and I am not ready to send it in now. I doubt I will ever want to sell this camera. I feel the risk vs. reward is such that I am better off NOT sending in the camera. Fixing these issues requires a deep teardown that might (and has according to some reports) introduce new and more serious problems that Nikon could eventually fix, but only after arduous back and forth. Yet another issue could be discovered. Nikon appears willing to fix these issues indefinitely into the future, regardless of warranty. Maybe when the sensor gets really dirty I'll send in the camera, understanding that they'll clean the sensor too. (lol)
