I went to Italy last year for a month. Took two point and shoot pocket Sony's. Best decision I ever made. Equipment did not get in the way and had a wonderful time. Pocket cameras never got heavy, never got in the way and were always attached to my belt via small tote cases that I could release like I was a gun slinger out west. Remember, travel light, travel smart and enjoy your trip. A trip to Italy is not about your camera equipment, it is about enjoying yourself and having equipment that will not interfere with the fun.

What does 1.4, 1.2 translate to mm. Thanks
1.4/1.2 translates to being able to capture shots in darker situations.
Take the fast lens 17-40 1.4mm

I have Cannon 6D / 24-105 lens
Also have 17-40 1.4 L Zoom.
Dudes here suggest I take 35 mm fixed.
What to do?

Of the three I think the 35mm is the least useful. The 17-40 will be very useful for builidings and interiors. The 24-105 will be nice when you want a bit more reach.

Don't see the need as you have that length covered with the 17-40. Have a great trip. Post some pics.

Instead . . . everybody has a different opinion, so I decided to spreadsheet the various conflicting answers and average the result.
Ancient history here. I travelled to Italy monthly for 3 years in the late 60's. Shot with an Exakta VXIIa and had a 20mm f.3.5 wide angle, a 58mm,, f,1.8 "normal" and a 135mm f.3.5 telephoto. Used Extachrome ISO64. Got great shots of everything. Rarely used a strobe but a tripod was useful at times but maybe not worth the trouble packing it with today's technology.. Old info, I know , but Italy has been there awhile and doesn't change much. Have a great trip.

I agree with take them all. I would keep the 24-105 on camera and either the 35 or 17-40 on a second body. The order of leaving thing behind at home would be the 35 and then the 17-40. Hopefully, weight and size wise, you will be able to take then all.

The use of averages is often a search for the mediocre
Well . . . have no choice since this is mostly an opinion forum and most folks here each have a different one.
If you don't like the fact I ask questions . . . just ignore me and leave room for other more understanding and courteous dudes
