An non-photography, but still relevant aside: if on your trip you have a chance to pass through or stay in Cody, by all means schedule a few hours (half day or more, if you can) to go to the Buffalo Bill Historical Center. This is truly a world class museum (they have ties to The Smithsonian) and really should not be missed. Besides wings housing exhibits about Buffalo Bill Cody, the natural history of the Rockies, the Plains Indians, and possibly the largest gun collection anywhere, they have one of the best collections of Art of the West of any museum. Many original Remington bronzes, and countless painting that you are sure to recognize, and outdoor sculpture gardens between the wings. Once you go you'll thank yourself for making the effort and taking the time to include this visit in your trip.

I totally agree. Drove over the Beartooth Highway once to visit the Cody Museum. It was totally worth the 1/2 day. Where else can you go see Matt Dillon's revolver, or Paladin's holster and calling card.

The Driggs, ID airport is still a first class operation. The Warbirds Museum is very good - a 92 year-old friend who flew in WW II and Korea has vouched for the authentic restoration and condition of the planes.

There are a number of glider services available and the terrain is breathtaking from the air. Just down the road in Victor is the Grand Teton Brewing Company brewery and pub. THe beer is excellent and worth a stop.

Beartooth All American Highway (US 212) is an adventure in itself. THe scenery is spectacular and there are some nice places to pull off. But the road is not for the acrophobic. You can spend a couple of hours, at least, going the 65 or so miles between Cooke City and Red Lodge, MT. IT is worth it, as the Absaroka Mtns. are spectacular, old volcanic peaks: the area to the north of the pass is part of the Beartooth-Absaroka Wilderness. It is tough country and not for the inexperienced, unless you stay quite close to the road.

The goats in this shot were photographed just west of the west summit (sounds a bit confusing) of Beartooth Pass.

I was there one year at the end of September - it was spectacular. The elk migrate down from the mountains into the Jackson Hole Elk Preserve, which is protected since it is their winter grazing grounds. Floating down the river in a raft, a herd of about 80 elk swam across the river in front of us! The guide said usually you only see a few at a time. By the end of September everything is closing up for the winter, but you don't have the crowds of July and August.

HIAL, what a super travel information from "Hog " readers.
Thank you all from good and detailed information's.
So many of you warning about overpopulation from the tourist in July.
I may have to wait and set my travel to the September as did Sb.
I was planning to go without any reservations and just explore to where-ewer "road turns". Done as at like in to the Europe more than ones.
I do sailing and motorcycling on July and hit Wyoming on September.
Thanks to all of you !!

My "Hog" friends, I like to thank all of you the ones who gave me advises to my Cuba photo travel, that was a lot of help, and my trip true the country grandeur experience.
-NOW I am heading first time on my life to the Wyoming,
Any advise where to fly, rent a car and shoot a landscapes and wildlife close to the road and less populated areas by the tourist.??

To me the best time to go into that territory would be Oct. The leaves are still on the trees in their brilliant Fall colors, The Elk are still in the Rut wolves are available in the Lamar Valley bears are all around The drive over Bear Tooth Pass should be avoided at all costs if you are trying to get anywhere the same day. The scenery is too gorgeous to be Legal The one time i went over it , it wasn' possible to drive more than 200 yards without stopping for a pic. Be Certain the Hit Ox Bow bend in Teton National park Also in Oct you may have some snow in higher elevations , alsolower but it Usually melts. If one pic speaks a thousand words check out my Website, many YNP and Teton scenery and animal pics. I live in Msla Mt. so can go there any time I want WEB: www.robinsnaturepics.smugmug.com. You'll have a ball!! To getto the web you may have to copy and paste the webpage
