You can fly into Jackson, probably from Denver, and rent a car there. That will put you right into the middle of the action in the Tetons. There are unlimited opportunities in the Tetons and just up the road in Yellowstone. I've visited frequently for over 30 years and there's still places I haven't covered.

The way I usually handle tourists is to be out shooting very early morning and later afternoon evening. I usually go back to the campground during the daytime while the tourists and traffic are heavy, and edit photos, relax, etc.

Lodging (prices and availability) and even campsites can be a major challenge. If you are camping, I highly recommend the Gros Ventre campground. I shot some of my best bull moose photos in and around my campsite on one of those mid-day siestas.

I love Jackson Hole. Do rent a car and get out and see the area. We went for a winter vacation. We did a dogsled trip to Granite Hot Springs, a snowmobile trip to the Gros Ventre Area and a snow coach trip to Yellowstone. The entire area is simply amazing. Do check out the tourist center heading out toward the Gros Ventre Area. Its a great place to get maps and information. They also have a collection of stuffed wildlife native to the area. The ladies working there were awesome. There are a couple of folks here on HOG that live in the area and maybe they will post some additional info for you on places to shoot.

We flew Delta from West Palm Beach with a change in Atlanta. That was cheapest winter flights for us from West Palm. Your location shows GA, so you should have no trouble getting a direct flight from Atlanta or change planes in Salt Lake City.

You can fly into Cody, WY.
Why not drop in at Carters and get the real low down on where to go?

Things many miss:
Have a beer at the Silver Dollar Bar in Jackson Hole.
Shoot the rafters going down the river, too.
The Wind River Canyon - South/East from Yellowstone towards Lander, WY
Don't miss the Wind River Trading Post just out of the Canyon.
The Sinks - Up out of Lander, WY
The Pioneer Graveyard - out of Lander, WY

There are only two seasons in Wyoming:
Snow, and Road Construction.
Snow is 8-9 months long.
Road construction is ALL the time there isn't snow. It isn't really construction. They put down a thick layer of road tar, and spread pea gravel over it.
Then the tourist traffic (You) drive over it, after waiting 30 minutes for the pilot car, to pack the gravel into the tar.
While waiting, you can look over the scenery. When traveling though, often the scenery is the back of a lumbering RV ahead of you.
Old Faithful isn't anymore. When Mount Saint Helen's popped, it screwed up Old Faithful. Now it kind of goes randomly. So have a seat and relax outside the general store and wait in the shade. Remember, you can get closer with a zoom instead of standing in the sun. Which is hot in the summertime there.
Insect repellent with DEET, and shady hats and long sleeves recommended.
If you want to avoid the crowds, see Wyoming in the snow time.

Have a good trip!

The other issue to consider is that Wyoming is almost always windy. Not just a little, but a lot windy, as in 30-40mph windy! Worse in the winter, fortunately.

Depends a lot on where you are.
That said, there is the saying (True) that the snow never melts in Wyoming. It just wears out from blowing back and forth.

In my 7 years living there, it more just evaporated from freeze drying.
But there are plenty of really nice days year round. Just don't blink. ;)

Go to Yellowstone in late May, or mid September. Avoid the summer months that are crowded with tourists and clog the roadways. Gary

Be sure to get a picture of a WY license plate. The horse and rider are from an actual photograph.

When are you going? Flying in to Jackson Hole is convenient but limited, and so very expensive and hard to get seats for this summer most likely. But that part of Wyoming - especially Yellowstone and the Tetons National Park - is the richest in terms of wildlife and stunning scenery, including the amazing geographic "thermal features" (geysers, boiling pools of water, boiling mud pots, steam geysers, etc.). Get a travel guide or even look at photos online to see the variety and map out your trip. It will be an unforgettable experience.

Fly into Billings Mt. Take Beartooth hwy down to Yellowstone. Beautiful drive. Or if you want to hit it all fly into Rapid City, SD. Mt. Rushmore, Crazy Horse, Devils Tower. Then head over to Yellowstone via Big Horn Mnts. We have more antelope than people in our state. But Yellowstone has become very crowded.
