Just saw the ad for the Tamron Tailgate Tour. They will be in San Diego on the 18th, and they were there a couple of days ago at a different venue. Have any Hoggers attended one of these? I am a serious hobbyist. Just wondering if it would be worth it for me to attend. Thanks in advance for your input!
Coming to Boise in July. I want to try the 150-600.
They sponsored a similar thing here a couple of years ago. After the lecture at the local camera store they met us at the The Birds of Prey center. We got free admission and they brought out birds to pose for us. Tamron had all their lenses to try. It was very well done. Even got a free Tamron t-shirt.
(PS: one of my images won a second place ribbon at the State Fair. Alas I used my Sigma lens for it.)

After looking at the list of event locations, it seems as if those of us on the 'right' coast are being ignored at least for this year.
I attended one here locally last year at Action Camera in Roseville. The event was well attended, there was also some free food. Yes of course Tamron hawked their wares, but the seminars were all good and informative. Go for it if you have the time.

I went to one here in St. Louis at Schiller's Camera Store...
I really liked it - As I do most of the promo things that Schiller's puts-on.
As to an answer to your question of "would it be worth it"....
Most definitely.
As ALL things in Photography -- We All Learn From Everything. I would Never Ever turn down a chance to LEARN....
Take Your Camera and try out EVERYTHING they have....
And as with my store here - I took them up on the Free Lunch...
;-)
I attended the Tamron Tailgate Tour in Dayton (Beavercreek), Ohio last year.
There was an Friday evening event taught by Jillian Bell and Andre Constantini, both from Tamron. Both individuals are very knowledgeable in photography and Tamron lenses. On Saturday morning, we met at the Wright Patterson Air Force museum, also in Dayton for an opportunity to try any of the Tamron lenses, both inside the museum (low-light) and outside. The lenses were available for Canon, Nikon and Sony. I tried several lenses and was very impress with the 'kick the tires' approach. I found the Tailgate very informative and my time invested was well spent. Our group was predominately Nikon users ( I shoot Canon), there was still sufficient lenses to checkout and experiment with. If another Tailgate was offered locally, I would definitly attend again.
 Yes, went to one here in Tucson. It was good. Played with 150-600 tamron in the parking lot of photo store. I ended up buying one after that. Good seminars by pros and free lunch. Free little give aways too. Learned about
http://www.roguesafari.com/ and ended up buying pop up flash booster. I thought it was worth while. Crowd was definitely skewed towards seasoned citizens- tends to be a Tucson thing in general.

I attended one in Hartford, CT last summer. Good chance to try out their lenses and talk to their reps, but the classes were pretty rudimentary. Of course, they were trying to sell Tamron lenses, but they weren't high pressure about it. If you are a serious hobbyist and past the beginner stage, I doubt you will get much, if anything, from the classes. On a bright note, I did win a door prize. It was a Rogue flash extender. Unfortunately, I don't use it. There's no pop up flash on my main camera and, even if there was, I would carry a flash unit before I would carry the extender. By the way, I only had a 15-20 minute drive in light to moderate traffic (compared to So. Cal.) and I wouldn't have wasted the time had I known the level of the courses.

Vick I, I just attended one a few weeks ago. They offer three free classes during the day, nice lunch and the ability to handle all their glass. Two professionals and a sales person make up the team. For $25.00 you can attend a two hour, more in depth, class in the evening. They gave me a few ideas making my time worthwhile. So yes would be my answer. From New Mexico, my best, J. Goffe
Just attended Tamron Tailgate Tour in Las Vegas a week ago. Good opportunity to try out lens on your camera. Some seminars better than others and did pay for the evening seminar. Did not go on the photo shoot the following day where they let loan you a lens to use in the field. And they had good pricing on their product. Paid sales tax on lens and $25 rebate. Saved over $100 on 150-600mm. Sweet!

yeah, I'm disappointed with the tour not coming anywhere on the east coast. I live in Raleigh NC and the nearest tour stop on the schedule is in Ohio. I hope they add a stop in the future that's closer to this area. I recently purchased a Tamron lens and I'm interested in getting the 16-300 lens after I save up it or the Sigma 18-300. The tour sounds like it's a fun event.

I attended onelast year. They are informative, small groups usually on geneal photography topics and usually introducing new Tamron products.

Thanks for the links. I'm a farm girl, born in Indiana and spent almost two thirds of my life in Wells County just south of Fort Wayne.
I know where Wells Co is! I lived in CA back in the '70s, but escaped back home!

I attended one last year in Allentown PA. The venue was great, they have a classroom. I also stayed for the $25 evening class. There was about 1.5 hour delay between the day time stuff and the evening. The camera Shop brought in a local staff person from a hawk preserve. He brought a redtail hawk and a screech owl. It was a good addition to the program. It was well worth it for me.

Can't answer about your drive -- I've been there and I get it. I went last fall and I enjoyed it. You get to see most of the lineup, play with them on your camera, and there are special prices for the day, usually another $ 25 discount, sometime a bit more. I found it worth it. To those wondering about the East coast, that was last year, where they started, but I'm sure they'll be back!
